I didn't really get what the game wanted me to do. I assume the point was simply to keep moving forward and stay on the road, but that was never made clear. The story also felt incomplete. It presents loneliness as if people always leave or avoid us, but that's only one side of it. Sometimes we're the ones who push others away. And sometimes loneliness isn't about being physically alone at all. It's about feeling lonely even when surrounded by people. Moreover, the gameplay mechanics became repetitive and boring. To be honest, I don't even think it's fair to classify this as a game or even a minigame. If this were a first year computer science student's semester project, and I were the professor, I'd happily give it an AA or more. But as something released on Steam and presented as a game, it just felt like three minutes of my life wasted..
Loneliness hurts
I enjoyed the reaction of the other squares and their strange patterns as I walked closer to them. However, as the screen got darker and darker, I could actually feel a strange discomfort. In my attempt to find squares at the end that don't run away, or even a heart, my journey seemed all for nothing. And it was all for nothing. This is exactly what loneliness feels like, to get rid of it you need someone to lean on. But not everyone, especially not everyone, will be there for you. And that's when it hurts.
I hate this game so much. 10/10
overall alright for free.
The squares just move directly away from your Avatar square in a strait line when approached and fade away. There isnt any unique patterns, there is no deeper interactions, progression, interesting or neat patterns to emerge. You just scroll to the top of the screen scattering a few mildly unique patterns of squares until the game fades to black. I sincerely think the positive reviews on here are trolling, Yes, the game was "positively review bombed", especially that guy with 300 hours played, he's just leaving the game on in the background, there is no long term progression or anything. There is a million more things that could have been done with this concept, but it wasn't expanded on at all. Colors could have changed, squares could change personality interactions depending on what you do, squares could have dispersed into random and unique patterns, attitudes and interactions could change over time, etc. etc. there is none of that. You see the time played on the reviews, there isn't even a game here, even for free, so much more could have been done with little effort, sadly it wasn't.
i can relate
