Liminal is a mind-bending puzzle game where every door is a change in perspective and destination.

Alright. Liminal is factually not a liminal spaces game. What it actually is, is a free to play sci-fi game inspired by Portal. If Portal was inspired by Mass Effect's soundtrack. And if Valve never bothered to finish Portal and instead left the game quarter-baked on Steam for people to play, lol. It's been over eight years since the devs updated this game at the time of this writing, and while there is something to be said about leaving a game on Steam for the purposes game preservation, this is easily a game to avoid. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3767771872 It does have the hallmarks of a game that could be fun and even a bit unique within the realm of Portal-likes, but it apparently never got there. I ended up softlocked only like fifteen minutes in, and judging from issues other people have had with the game over the years, I'd say that would simply be the first of what likely would be many issues. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3767771804 On the positive side, the game looks great. It's a vibrant game that leans into different colored doors being the Portals, asymmetric puzzles, a decent setting, and that aforementioned Mass Effect inspired soundtrack. And by soundtrack, I mean one track. But a decent one. :) Also, the actual controls feel responsive, but then again, they're also very simple, so there's not really anything to mess up in that regard. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3767771844 Yeah, ultimately, it's a shame the dev never finished this one. There is an idea here that would have been worth pursuing, but it never was, and certainly never will happen now. It's ftp, so maybe there's no harm in checking it out, and possibly, you might get further into the game than I did, but personally, I'd rate this as not worth your time. I'm glad this was free because it's really boring. Remember Portal and how clever you felt when you solved a puzzle in it using portals? This isn't that game. It wants to be like Portal, but never actually accomplishes any "eureka" moments because there's only one way to solve every puzzle. In fact, it's so strict that the game has to literally show you how to solve the puzzles in the first levels. The gameplay also leaves a lot to be desired especially in how the rules of the game work. Sometimes you can pick up the door robots off of the door, sometimes you can't, so you never feel like you're "breaking" the game like you did in Portal. Sound design wise, it's atrocious. The music is trite, the melodies loop every 10 seconds and the lack of footsteps or ambient sound effects of any kind make the world feel lifeless and boring. The music is so annoying I muted it just 20 seconds into gameplay. Looking up a walkthrough, I found that the rest of the game isn't at all interesting and the puzzles don't ever get any more clever. Visually, it's got some great visual gimmicks, but that's all they are: gimmicks. This game is absolutely lifeless and infuriating to play and I'm so glad they recognize that the game is "confusing" because if the devs even recognize that their game makes little sense, how can they expect players to actually have fun? I played Portal 1 and 2 over and over and over and over. Even the most frustrating puzzles felt like I was just one thought away from figuring them out. That's what made the game so much fun to play. You feel like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ genius when you solve a puzzle. In this game, solving a puzzle made me feel like a kid who followed a "draw by numbers" page. There's zero sense of accomplishment when you have no active role in solving the puzzles. Devs: rework the entire game from the ground up. This is a pre-pre-pre-pre alpha state and it's embarrassing to play. I legit feel bad playing what obviously is only a half-baked idea.
Мужики, спасайте, если наберём 10 лайков и 5 наград, то жена подарит ящик пива
This is probably one of the most trickiest Liminal game that I ever played lol.
If you like liminal spaces, gravity defying changes & puzzles (like me) you may like this. If you have zero patience & hate puzzles, I advice against playing this. ONLY PROBLEM, THOUGH! The achievements have been broken for half a decade - they were never fixed & probably never will be fixed.

game is confusing at first and doesnt really make much sense. quality is bad as well. im a liminal space kid and i love games with liminal spaces but this defidently isnt a liminal space to me.
There is of room for improvement, but the game is free and fun to try out. Please (1) improve the frame rate / performance for people who don't high-end computers and (2) allow people to increase FOV and specify mouse movement acceleration
