Limbus is a contentious game to recommend because of the yoke that hangs around its neck every step of the way: The fact that it's a gatcha game. Regardless of how generous and lacking in FOMO the game is almost every step of the way, it doesn't change the fact that it's a game where you gamble for the chance to get boosts in power. That is going to be a dealbreaker for many, and honestly I probably wouldn't have gotten into it if I wasn't already attached and trusting of Project Moon as a series and as a company. It's also a bit hard to recommend the game based on the gameplay, because a large portion of it is incredibly braindead. Modern Identities (the actual things you pull for) outpace basically every piece of content up until the seventh or eighth chapter of the story, which is easily 100+ hours if you take the time to read and play the side modes to their completion, which means spamming Winrate is viable for a very long time and is gonna make you feel like a rat pressing a button for food for a long time. That being said, the combat when it's at its best is pretty fun. A lot of it falls into buildcrafting, picking the right units and abilities to get past certain challenges or to synergize well with one another. Of course, doing that requires the aforementioned grinding and gambling, which is why it can take a minute for the gameplay to click until you have a viable and interesting team. This all sounds like a tentative recommend, but I mean this with complete sincerity when I say that the story, world, and characters are worth the price of admission. The City of Project Moon remains one of the most compelling settings I've ever had the fortune to experience, and it's tied along with a group of characters that are genuinely second to none. Watching the Sinners grow from a scattered, lost, emotionally distant group of people into a cohesive unit as each chapter explores their lives and how they surpass their traumas is genuinely beautiful. I won't lie when I say more than a few of them had me crying. My advice is to at least finish the fifth chapter, as the first three are on the weaker end due to being developed all at once for the game's release, and the fourth one is where the storytelling really starts to hit its stride with some hiccups in the gameplay structure. If you like the fifth chapter, then everything continuing onwards is a constant stream of 9s and 10/10s. So yeah, consider myself hooked now and forever. Glory to Limbus Company.
