I, like many other people, found this game through recommendations after playing A Short Hike and other "cozy" short adventure games, and superficially, I can see why people draw the connection. Both games are about cartoony animal protagonists going on a journey of discovery around an island while completing mini missions, but those superficial comparisons miss the point. Fundamentally, A Short Hike is a game for teens/twentysomethings who are forced to connect with life and nature again through the game and the protagonist, and the story, writing, and gameplay reflect that audience. Lil Gator Game is a game for kids, in theme, difficulty, and writing. The challenges are more annoying than creative or fun, the writing is cringy as an adult, and the themes feel like they're for a different audience. So if you're giving this game to an elementary schooler, then go for it. It has a very well designed setting and solid controls and stuff, but it shouldn't be interpreted as a cozy adventure game for adults.
There's a lot to love about it, and a few things to dislike. I didn't like how there's no map, and that you *have* to buy the DLC to get all the achievements. Other than that, the game is cozy, chill, and easy to complete.

A nice cute game that is fun to play
A cozy, lighthearted game with a touching story about growing up, letting go, and embracing change. At first, it didn't click with me. It felt like it was missing a lot of QoL features, but the more I played, I found myself not missing them. Going at my own pace, exploring the island, taking on the silly little quests, everything came together into a comfy endearing lil' package. The graphics are cute, the music is well made and dynamic, and the exploration is simple but fluid and intuitive. I actually felt myself getting a little emotional at the end; the evolution of Lil' Gator's relationship with their sister is somber, impactful, and believable. I'd highly recommend giving this one a try.
fun quick game definitely worth it if you are looking for a game that you can do and zone out to
Very fun game. It’s basically an exploration game with platforming elements about a gator that’s little, a lil gator game if you will, who’s sister returned for fall break but doesn’t have the time to play with him. There are no enemies unless you count cardboard cutouts that have enemies drawn onto them. It’s very fun, and takes 4-6 hours to beat (specifically to 100%, atleast for me). The only problem I would have with it is that’s too short because I want to play more because it’s fun. It also has a DLC, which is great aswell. It’s also great on steamdeck, so if you got one I recommend playing it on steameck
What a wonderful title, no notes. The movement is fantastic in this game. I couldn't stop playing it just for the movement alone. This is one of those games I picked up and had a really difficult time putting down. The adventure I'd be into with this kind of setup would be incredible in real life. Honestly, just enjoy the vibes, the nostalgia, the imagination through this lil gator. I named him Gerty the Germ, first thing that came to mind. It really feels fitting. I love him a lot, and his ability to push through his path with his friends backing him up to win over his family. It's adorable. Give it try, there's so much to explore, I'm excited to play the "in the dark" section next!
