This was my favorite childhood game, I spent literally hours with my horses. It's so nostalgic and magical to be able to go back and spend time with this game again.

Expect stiff animations, blocky horse models, and flat textures. But it holds up in its own way—like a VHS tape that still plays perfectly fine. On the Steam Deck, performance is buttery smooth, loading is fast, and battery drain is minimal. It’s like this game was made for handheld nostalgia. Gameplay What it lacks in complexity, Silver Buckle Stables makes up for in straightforward fun. You train your horse, compete in events, and explore scenic trails. Controls are simple and responsive on the Deck. Don’t expect a deep riding simulator—this is more about casual joy than competitive realism. It’s the kind of game you can zone out to for an hour and still feel like you accomplished something. I always wanted this game when I was a kid, but the opportunity never arose. Now I've finally gotten around to it, and I have to say - I'm surprised, both positively and negatively. The game has held up really well for its age, especially in terms of graphics. It's from 2006, can you believe it? The competitions are fun, and there are a few things to discover (search the map of the outside world for mini-competitions and diligently collect ribbons for first place in competitions). However, the game also gets boring relatively quickly. While there are a few somewhat different disciplines, you unfortunately encounter most of them in practically every single competition – which drags things out and somewhat diminishes the variety. It's a bit of a slog. I do miss a story mode a little. Yes, it probably couldn't have offered a particularly extensive one, but I would have liked at least a very basic plot. Generally, some things are explained too much, and others too little. I spent quite a while getting frustrated with the last tournament until I googled for help and realized I'd backed the wrong horse (literally). I would have loved this game back in the day, and I still quite like it now. It's worth a few bucks :)

It's simply your childhood games brought back. Wish more older games would be brought to steam. I have so many older games on disks that no computer today can read and if they can read it they can't instal it...
