About
A Study Tool for the Alaskan Haida Language
X̱aad Kíl is not a language of the past—it is a language that still belongs here, though history has tried to take it away. Within the last century, boarding schools, government policies, and systemic efforts to erase Indigenous languages nearly silenced Haida in Alaska. Speakers were punished. Generations grew up without access to their own language. Even today, those who seek to learn face an uphill battle—limited resources, lack of institutional support, and a world that too often treats Indigenous languages as unimportant.
Let's Learn X̱aad Kíl is here to push back against that.
This interactive study tool was created to support Haida learners in reclaiming their language. As part of my work with Central Council Tlingit and Haida, I knew that Tlingit was not the only language our tribal citizens needed a space to learn. Haida deserves just as much support, recognition, and opportunity to thrive. This tool is not a corporate project or an outsider’s attempt to document something for history—it is meant to be a living, breathing resource for those who want to learn, speak, and carry X̱aad Kíl forward.
Explore the Language – Walk through immersive spaces where Haida words are paired with everyday objects.
Interactive Learning Games – Strengthen your skills with puzzles, memory challenges, and concept-matching exercises.
Visual Dictionary – Connect words with images for easier recognition and retention.
Real-Time Dictionary Search – Navigate the Haida language with an intuitive search tool designed for self-study.
Call and Response Practice – Engage in simple conversations through interactive dialogue prompts.
This is more than just a study tool—it is a way to support Haida learners in reconnecting with their language and making sure X̱aad Kíl continues to be spoken in Alaska.
Warning: AI Slop This game is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
"Let's Learn X̱aad Kíl" is an insult to everyone... there's some gamelike elements in this educational software, but basically (and the developer admits this without understanding how harmful and wrong it is) that he flipped/plagiarised other peoples assets and used disgusting AI slop because he wasn't capable of doing the job of a game developer. This is not okay. This is educational software intended to teach a language used by natives in what is now called Alaska, and also now called the home of disgusting AI slop, apparently. For gameplay purposes, because the user interface for this game is mostly just 2D static text/images... it might as well be a web page. It's functionally no different from a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC. As mentioned, this features really godawful, "wrong" looking AI slop instead of genuinely and sincerely created game assets. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating real game assets or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision. AI slop sticks out like a sore thumb... and it comes across as insulting. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too, and that's glaringly obvious here. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Given that this free title won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? I think you should give this one a miss. Although it's free, your time and storage are valuable resources, and the market is filled with superior options. The use of AI slop is a direct insult to gamers and real, ethical content creators and artists everywhere.

I learnt many things such as the translation for three sided needle used for sewing leather and land otter stretching board
