Whew... I held off writing a review for this game for a small while, even though I have actually spent a good amount of time playing the game. Tonight, I bought a game-pad controller, and I did find the gameplay much more pleasant. So, I am going to try writing my thoughts, because I have had some fun times. Would I recommend this game? I am going to say yes - but do your research first, simply because the game does a good job at what it says it is going to do. And it does it very well but not much more. Folks, this is a what-you-see is-what-you-get type situation. The nes-zelda gameplay feels right out of nes-zelda, but that is all the gameplay you will see. In fact, there is not even any story. And are there items and skill upgrades? Yes, but they are stripped down to just numbers on the screen. Even me - who loves the minimalistic approach - is a bit taken back by the lack of flourish here. But if you want nes-zelda type gameplay, and you want to jump right in and have lots of control with your upgrades, then maybe you will be right at home here. I know that Legends of Pixelia will remain on my recently-played list, because it is just so easy to pickup and to get back into playing. I can see myself playing this years into the future, because the gameplay is - of course - timeless. There is also a multi-player mode. I imagine that is a pretty good time, but I did not get to experience it. Might be another plus for you. Works great on Ubuntu Linux. The game uses the Unity game engine, and it recommends a gamepad controller.

Hey! I'm kind of a Blizzard fanboy and I only play those tripple A games like Diablo 3, GTAV, LOL, Starcraft 2 or Warcraft 3. Ok I admit I'm not a huge fan of early access but hey sometimes you have to give it a try :) and I don't regret it at all! By this time i have a playthrough softcore Character and a almost playthrough hardcore Character. (my third one xD) This game shines with the well balanced progression curve. Bosses are getting harder mechanic wise as you improve timing your skills and dodging enemy projectiles. Meanwhile you have a steady item progression, which is kind of addicting, because after each dungeon the loot you get could be a little better than before. So you want to get further and further. Skill matters: Although this game has classic RPG elements, like stat choices, different items with about 15 different stats and some kind of a skilltree, improving your play with your champ and learning bossmechanics matters the most. You can litterelly dodge everything, when you play perfect. Timing your 5 different skills, each with its own cooldown, feels rewarding when you master them. Multiplayer: There is one other big thing this game offers: local multiplayer. Playing this game with 3 friends on one screen together to beat bosses was so much fun. It reminded me of playing Secret of Mana with my brothers back in the days. The synergy of the 3 classes (now there are 4) made us to play together and time our skills properly. After each dungeon you can compare damage done and evasion, so there is something like pvp involved. You always want to be #1 xD If you like those oldschool SNES RPGs/ beat em up games, get the game, grab a friend and have some fun. :-) Greetings Flitzepeuta Edit: Just cleared Hardcore D14-3 totally worth :)

I fell in love with this game in just 20 minutes into it ..The gameplay is fantastic and the pixel art is retro beautiful..It may need better support for mac keyboards but I think the game is better suited for a gamepad..Any way great game ,would love to see more games like this.
LoP is a game with simple combat mechanics wrapped in more and more challenging fights through the progress of the game. Overall the game seems pretty balanced and the author is very open and responsive to feedback which reflects in a good quality of the game. With the chance to get better items in every higher dungeon, leaderboards for highscores and ways to optimize stats for lategame characters, the game brings a lot of long term content and motivation. And last but not least its also a lot of fun to play the pvp mode local with some friends. Absolutely recommendable game!
I'm not going to give this game a thumbs down because it has a small player base and viewcount. I don't want to run around quashing budding developers before they get a chance to shine. At the same time, I actually wouldn't recommend this game. It has many, many issues. For starters, it has problems with the controls. As solid as the hitbox detection is, the entire game feels pretty clunky. I'm used to hack and slash style gameplay, but the minimalism hurts this game quite a bit. The lack of direction in your attacks combined with the lack of differentiation between each character makes it lack depth. That's my real issue. Most of the 'difficulty' comes from colored enemies that own shields. These enemies are invincible to every kind of damage until you break their shield using the correct, coinciding color of attack. This means if you miss the specific subset of attacks you need to use to hit the enemy, you have to run around and wait until your ability comes off cooldown. In fact, most of the game's 'correct' style of gameplay is just that: run around and wait for your cooldowns. This gives the game a very, very slow pacing. You're given very little in the way of options with your gameplay. You just...have to hit the specific move at the right time. I understand that some people enjoy this simple albiet punishing gameplay style. For me, it feels very dated at this point, and I expect a bit more dynamism from the titles I frequent. Compared to dozens of action RPG's or roguelites, this game is lacking in many respects. The visuals are also minimal and to the game's detriment. I understand having limited resources for the game. That's fine, and I don't expect life like detail in my games. At the same time, games like Shovel Knight circumvent these restrictions in the chosen art style by having solid art direction and variety. This game doesn't craft different atmosphere's with different feels to them. They blend together, all variations of the same monochrome. That isn't to say this game is without its positives. Its music is pretty good, being easy to listen to. The same could be said for the ability to combo and chain moves together. It requires precise timing, and that takes time to master. There's some depth there; it doesn't change the limiting factors I mentioned earlier however. Chaining attacks is irrelevent if that first colored attack misses. All the other attacks don't matter, and you must wait until you try again. And again. And again ad verbatum. Regardless, this could all be fixed with a bit of polish and refinement. Adding some variation to the attacks would help tremendously. Perhaps the barbarian gets a leaping slam that makes enemies prone? Maybe give him bonus execute damage on his slam? Giving the knight a quick block that counters the enemy and lets you slip in an empowered attack would be nice. Maybe giving some kind of slow to the mage. Either way, I wish the developer good luck, and this isn't a bad effort for a game by any means. It simply needs more polish and it'll be a load of fun to play.
I really enjoy the game,great action,with a taste of rpg,inventory management,stats, items,upgrades, good work devs!! thx
The thing I like most about this game is the concept of champions for pvp where the characters are preset and equal. A concept desperately missing from the cash grab game industry where a level 50 with stacked gear fights a level 20. This feels like a game created by fans for fans. Now just make a Bruce Lee style character with punches and kicks so Ican continue my commodore 64 flashback.
I've only played the Knight so far but two things just stand out from the first room: - Controls are super smooth and accurate. - Pixels and collisions and other hit-boxes are spot on. This leads to a super fun gameplay. Character progression is pretty simple but helps customize your hero between floors, just like upgrading your gear by spending your well earned coins. One big negative for colourblind: Enemy shields are colour coded, like the four main buttons on your controller. You need to match your attack to the shield's colour in order to destroy the shield. Looking forward to shared screen co-op and solo runs.
This game is awesome and attends to make you addicted! I also agree with the previous comment. Absolutely recommendable!
