I actually easily mastered reading katakana 2 hours into the game, so it really did help me figure it out. I do think that the vocabulary lessons could have been more integrated into the gameplay; especially as fighting individual characters grew really stale after a while. The affection mechanics were not really interesting and I did not care much for the small cutscenes or the boost it gave. The narrative should have been much more compelling but because the focus was only on katakana, they had a really limited scope. I actually started this when I was in high school, but I grew disinterested in completing it until recently. This game was a useful alternative but it is much more effective if paired with traditional materials and a rigorous study habit.
Prepare a notepad! A good start to learning Katakana. This game doesn't teach all the rules thoroughly but it's pretty good at reinforcing the basics.
Esta ayudandome mucho a mejorar mi japones
JRPG, где надо угадывать чтение знаков каны либо знаки каны по чтению, чтобы нанести урон врагам
Recommended, but you should know what you get - and what you won't. This game focuses on training Katakana. You do not need to know Hiragana before starting this game, and it won't help you all that much - just know that in japanese texts Hiragana is much more common. You will get shown some japanese words, but there is no training for the words. Only for the symbols. The "story" is rather sub-par, and none of the characters stand out in a good way. Which is ok-ish for a training game, just don't expect too much. Finally there is the low price. If you feel lke you have a Katakana-shaped hole in your knowledge, this game is a both a cheap and a focused way to fill this hole. Therefore it is recommended.
This game is surprisingly fun, especially once you get past the first hour. Initially, it does feel just like a really bad RPG, but eventually the game does begin to include actually strategy in defeating the Katakana. Learning wise, I do think my Katakana skills have improved. If you're looking for just a casual way to study it, I recommend it. Only annoying part was achievement hunting, the affection achievement especially is tedious, but besides that, the game was surprisingly fun and I enjoyed playing it.
Very good, educational game. I did find a glitch in the underground mission called something like "take back osaka". During this mission, if after you find Kyoko you decide to cross the same bridge you already crossed, you can do the same encounter infinitely, but the cutscene is broken.
Very helpful game for learning Katakana. As someone who struggles remembering the characters this has helped me learn a lot faster than other language methods. I have had no issues with the game itself. I would recommend it.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game. Game itself is nice, you can fight and exercise katakana signs and learn some basic phrases but since like the middle of the game, the game starts to crash after every battle so it is getting very frustrating.
I was struggling to learn Katakana for school and a friend recommended this game. I am also currently playing their Hirigana game and will definitely be playing the Kanji game when I'm ready.
