Similarly to how Crimson Room: Decade does not require you to have played the original in order to understand it, The Last Half of Darkness 2025 is entirely winnable even if you are unfamiliar with the original game from 1989. However, much like Crimson Room: Decade though if you HAVE played the original that the remake is based upon then it will give you some additional insight into what to do and where to go or look in this game (and if not, then there are hints abound that will divulge to you the same clues you used in the 1989 game to solve certain puzzles). This is not just an enhanced edition of the first game though, Last Half was actually a trilogy. While the second and third installments in the game were not as solid as the first they are still part of the original story and elements from those two games are folded into the design and story of this one. I found that to be a nice nod that incorporated the best (or at least the most iconic) parts of these not-so-well received games to help paint a more complete picture for this anniversary release. Last Half 2025 is not without its faults however. Parts of this game are certainly very rough-looking, some of them almost engine default. It's also possible to advance within the game in an irregular manner, meaning that you can explore certain areas of the mansion and estate ahead of when the game thinks you're going to be there. It's entirely possible to have already collected and possibly even used found items long before you find clues elsewhere telling you what to do with them. Likewise, if you spend the in-game tokens to get hints it's also possible that you may have advanced ahead in certain parts faster than the game anticipated and thus you'll waste your coins on hints that do not apply to you because they pertain to things affected by your uneven progress. That said, the developer of the game is actively working on this one putting out patches and fixes here and there to fine tune things. They also responded to an inquiry I had regarding whether or not I'd inadvertently soft-locked the game (I didn't, but the lack of feedback from the game on what to do at times combined with what I knew from the 1989 original made me concerned I'd done something out of order and thus made the game unwinnable). I appreciate the dev's desire to interact with players and be available. The Last Half of Darkness is definitely NOT a game I was expecting to ever see get a remaster but it's one I'm certainly glad did. This was an important game in the point-and-click and "survival horror" genre when it released, and it merits being remembered for that.

I enjoyed this. yes it's made with free assets, I've bought dozens of games that have the same environments but this is what it looks like when it's done well. I really enjoyed this. I did get it on sale at about $7, it's worth more than that. Yes the puzzles where you can only move one at a time and switch is annoying but it's minor. I enjoyed the music, I enjoyed figuring out what item works for what.
After my first fine impressions of the horrorsphere the pointless shooting, roaming around and repeating the same actions i´ve done exactly the same way before ruined it for me.
Wow, what a surprise to see an old game come back to life. This updated 35th edition is so much fun and brings me back to the good old days of gaming. Dark, creepy, surprises and just well written. Highly recommend!
The charm is gone. I played all the previous games in giddy anticipation to play this remake. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I love how weird and creepy it is but that's it. The second I found the gun I knew this was not the game I remember. I am running around with a gun. Just out. Constantly. Because things just pop up every 3 steps to attack you. I have to find bullets. I have a health bar. I have to find health potions. I wanted my adventure/escape game, not a first person shooter.
Hey guys! Streamed this game on my gaming account StrangeCushGaming if you want to check out the game we have it posted to Youtube in 3 parts. It was a very fun, spooky, and interactive game. I love puzzle games and this one makes you use you're head a bit. It does have some hiccups don't get me wrong but what game doesn't honestly. Ill keep it short, sweet, and to the point. If you like spooky games, jump scares, puzzles, a good story, and just a fun time all around then get it. Taking an original and making it into technically a remake is hard but they did it beautifully. For that they deserve a round of applause!
Un-Remake it
I got asked to try this game out, and that i did! and i dont regret it. The game had some flaws at the beginning but it's a good game in genereal! and since i got the game there's been alot of updates! wich is a huge plus since i thought the Devs were gona leave the game once released, but they are fixing stuf still! Kudos for them! with this said, if you like a eerie vibe and some puzzles here and there, get this game! support em to make even better games!
I received this game as an offer from the creator to try it out and stream it, which I gladly did! This game is honestly an extremely cool experience worth trying out for yourself. I knew nothing about the original game before I was reached out to, so I don't know the source material but I can tell there is so much love for this game. I love that the creator is keeping it alive 35yrs later with a really fun updated experience! It really does not hold your hand, and you might get lost once or twice but the game gives you more ways than one and enough info to piece things together yourself and progress -just might take some wandering and a good memory! This game is well worth the price point so I recommend giving this a try yourself! Pros: - Fantastic sound design and music - Immersive exploration with a lot of freedom to move about how you'd like, even jumping on furniture and over obstacles which a lot of games in this genre don't let you do - Great story, I was invested in what was going on and enjoyed reading the notes - they aren't overly long but give enough detail to be interesting and informative - Aunt & Cousin are hot but you didn't hear it from me - Great feeling of tension that you're never really safe anywhere - Puzzles feel balanced in both difficulty and quantity Cons: - Some buggy textures that break immersion, not too distracting but definitely noticeable (water looking like a hole with floating things, dirt texture moving with camera in garden) - Janky combat sometimes, if you spam the gun too much it uses ammo without actually shooting - Some events trigger a bit too frequently/should probably stop happening after a certain checkpoint and other things will reset entirely even after you've already past it - though there is always an alternate route.
The BEST of the WRF Studios "Last Half of Darkness " - GREAT GAME - So : - You will die ; - You will shoot a lot (with a gun) ; - You will explore - search - find a LOT (which is great) ; - You will jump scared ; - You will read a lot to understand the story ; - In the genre, you will LOVE! - Highly recommended ! Gameplay time : 10-12 hours. Just take your time to explore (and aim well) and you will have a lot of fun playing. Regards
