The game starts off way too easy, and while it ramps up later, the lack of variety in debuffs and status effects makes the combat feel repetitive. One of the biggest issues is the sheer number of skills available—you can choose from five entire skill sects, which feels excessive. A more limited and focused skill selection would have made for a more strategic and engaging experience. Overall, it's a decent game, but the balance and depth of the mechanics could use some refining.

For the price that I paid ($0.79/usd), there's a solid game here. It would be fair at full price, so the sale price is a steal. It's an auto-battler, but you structure your items and skills to move through your enemies with ease, or with a fatal miscalculation. Surprisingly fun!
I've played the second part first, so I was quite surprised that while the mechanics and art are similar, the gameplay changes from a survivor-style game to an auto-battler. Once again, you start by picking a character from 11 options, which is already more than in the second game. Each character has its own boosts to certain attributes, while some also come with drawbacks and unique features that make them more viable for specific playstyles. For instance, one earns more money, while another sacrifices health in exchange for greatly increased damage. After that, you pick a difficulty level ranging from 0, which is essentially baby mode, all the way up to 7. A run revolves around defeating enemies and choosing rewards. Each wave contains several enemies that you fight one at a time, and at the end of every wave you receive a random selection of three perks, called kung fu, to choose from. You buy perks with coins earned by defeating enemies, but you're not limited to picking just one because you can buy all of them. What's more, you can use a reroll option to get another random set of three perks, which you can also purchase. The price increases by one coin with each purchase, but if you survive the next wave and return to the shop, the cost resets to zero. This means the first purchase is always free, while every additional purchase costs one coin more than the last. As a result, you can become very powerful very quickly. A run moves quickly, especially because the game respects your time and lets you increase the speed to the point where a wave can be completed in just a few seconds. It's also quite easy and undemanding because you can simply buy everything in the shop without giving much thought to the perks themselves. On normal difficulty, you'll cut through all the waves and bosses without ever being in danger of losing all your health. While easy to play, the game becomes very grindy if you want to unlock all the achievements. Each run lasts 50 waves, which feels excessive even at high speed, and you need to win ten times with every character.

Kungfu is a compact action roguelite developed and published by amk800 that focuses on delivering fast-paced martial arts combat in short but highly replayable sessions. Rather than building its appeal around an elaborate narrative or extensive exploration, the game embraces a straightforward philosophy: enter a run, fight through increasingly difficult challenges, grow stronger through upgrades, and attempt to reach the final boss before your momentum runs out. The result is an experience that caters to players who enjoy quick gameplay loops and constant progression without demanding hours of uninterrupted play. One of the game's most interesting design choices is its floor-based structure. Each stage lasts only a brief period, creating a sense of urgency that keeps players actively engaged from beginning to end. There is very little downtime between encounters, and every run feels like a race to become powerful enough to survive the challenges ahead. This approach works particularly well for players who prefer short gaming sessions, as a complete run can be finished relatively quickly while still providing a satisfying feeling of advancement. Combat serves as the heart of the experience. Players begin with limited capabilities but gradually unlock stronger martial arts techniques, passive bonuses, and equipment that dramatically improve their effectiveness. The game emphasizes the fantasy of transformation, allowing players to evolve from a vulnerable fighter into an unstoppable martial arts master capable of clearing large groups of enemies with ease. As upgrades accumulate, attacks become faster, stronger, and more visually impressive, creating a rewarding sense of growth throughout each run. The roguelite progression system encourages experimentation with different combinations of skills and equipment. Discovering effective synergies becomes a major source of enjoyment, as certain builds can dramatically alter the pace and style of combat. Some upgrades focus on increasing raw damage output, while others enhance attack speed, area coverage, or special effects. This variety helps keep repeated runs engaging and provides players with reasons to continue exploring new strategies even after achieving victory. Visually, Kungfu adopts a simple yet effective presentation that prioritizes gameplay clarity. The art style may not rival larger-budget productions, but it succeeds in keeping the action readable even when the screen becomes crowded with enemies and special effects. The martial arts theme is consistently reflected throughout the game's abilities and progression systems, helping establish a distinct identity that separates it from more generic fantasy-themed roguelites. The focus remains on delivering satisfying combat feedback rather than showcasing cutting-edge graphics. Another strength lies in the game's accessibility. The straightforward controls and easy-to-understand objectives make it approachable for newcomers, while the randomization of upgrades and build possibilities provides enough depth to maintain interest for experienced players. The balance between simplicity and replayability allows the game to appeal to a broad audience looking for an entertaining action title that can be enjoyed in short bursts. The game is not without limitations. Players searching for a deep storyline, extensive world-building, or a large variety of environments may find the overall package somewhat lightweight. The core gameplay loop remains the primary attraction, meaning enjoyment depends heavily on whether the combat and progression systems resonate with the player. Those who prefer slower-paced strategic experiences may also find the rapid-fire structure less appealing. Overall, Kungfu succeeds as a focused roguelite action game that understands exactly what it wants to deliver. Its emphasis on quick sessions, satisfying character growth, and build experimentation creates an engaging gameplay loop that rewards repeated play. While it may lack the scale and complexity of larger entries in the genre, it compensates with accessibility, fast pacing, and the enjoyable fantasy of becoming a legendary martial arts master. For fans of action roguelites and survivor-style progression systems, it offers a fun and efficient experience that is easy to revisit again and again. Rating: 6/10
