Not recommended unless you REALLY like minmaxing and grinding. There is a lot of content but the majority is the same thing repeated way more than it should be

I love this game. It's an idle game where you collect and breed creatures. It's free with no micro transactions. Hooray for no pop up windows!
Pros: -> Relaxing but still engaging enough game loop (like manny idle games) -> Scratches that creature collecting itch -> Free, and no MTX -> Dev seems chill Cons: -> Some aspects aren't that great returns for investment (i.e. gardening, combining creatures) -> Lost my save file randomly... (didn't export it at all; sadge) I would be more upset with that last bit, if not for the game being free. So why not give it a try? Maybe you'll like it - just remember to back out to main menu and export your save before exiting!

a very good idle game, get a positve vote and be happy about it.
100% Completed 180.1 hours. Every achievement unlocked. No shortcuts. Koltera is, at its core, a pure click-and-collect experience. There’s no story, no characters, and no narrative structure. Progression is driven almost entirely by experience bars, health bars, and incremental stat growth, all stacking on top of each other over long play sessions. Reaching 100% is a heavy grind. Much of the time investment comes from repeatedly breeding creatures in pursuit of perfect outcomes, where success is dictated more by persistence and optimisation than moment-to-moment decision-making. For a large portion of the game, progress feels slow and methodical, and repetition is unavoidable. Late-game progression changes the tone dramatically. Systems begin to compound, growth accelerates, and resources effectively become infinite. What once required careful planning and patience becomes trivial, creating a strong sense of momentum as the remaining achievements fall into place. The payoff is real, but it’s very much back-loaded. Koltera is upfront about what it offers. It’s a minimalist incremental game designed for players who enjoy long-term optimisation, watching bars fill, and refining systems until efficiency takes over completely. It doesn’t try to entertain through story or spectacle, only through accumulation. Pros: - Clear systems focused on optimisation and growth - Satisfying endgame snowballing - Appeals strongly to incremental and grind-focused players Cons: - Extremely repetitive, especially early and mid-game - No narrative or variety to break the loop - 100% completion demands patience over skill Verdict: Koltera is a commitment. Completing it fully is less about playing well and more about staying the course until the systems tip in your favour. If filling bars and perfecting numbers is your idea of fun, it delivers. Otherwise, it will feel like work.
There's a lot of components at the start, but it's a cute and fun game all in all.
Summary
Free simple creature collector idler ramping up quick turning into a monster breeder game to collect all species, it's variants, and perfecting their genetics and vibrancy. Pros + Simple chill fun + Has potential Cons - Repepititive - Too simple
Overview
Koltera is a free and simple creature collector idler. It has a slow start but the incremental progression ramps up quite fast with the goal of collecting all the available monsters, while also trying to perfect them with max genetic purity and vibrancy of every species variant. As you start, you will spend some time setting up your available starter monsters to level up and collect the things you need which will level yourself to unlock upgrades to speed things up. With more unlocks and a growing number monsters, it shifts from a simple idler collecting money and monster soulstones to a more active breeding game. At this point you'll spend a lot of time attempting to breed the perfect monster with max genetic purity and vibrancy for every variety of the species to complete your collection and the game. Achievements aren't particularly difficult but needs time and patience to collect all the perfect monsters and variants.
