Koala Kids Golf is an arcade type golf game where the Koala is your ball. Hit the Koala around the various courses, collecting treasure whilst avoiding dangers and traps. Try to earn enough treasure to gain stars, which unlocks other courses and venues.
Play solo, or with friends in local matches, or try your luck at beating others online.

Koala Kids Golf is only similar to golf because you hit an object with a club, but there are no holes to sink your ball into, instead you are trying to earn points by collecting different valued jewels which are scattered around the course.
There are twenty-five different courses, which must be unlocked by earning stars, gained by playing courses and accumulating points. Aim for bronze, silver, or gold stars by beating the scores attached to those stars. If you earn a gold star, a platinum score is unlocked for that course.
Each course has a challenge, whether that be score attack, where you have eight shots to accumulate as much score as possible; one shot wonder, where you have one shot only and must beat a minimum score; combo wombo where you try to hit as many animals in one shot before your ball runs out of momentum; and boost run, where you have to clear the course without stopping by hitting all the boost points.

The solo player challenges are actually quite difficult to beat, especially if you are trying to earn gold stars to unlock other courses, and you will find yourself attempting runs over and over again. The courses never change, so there is scope to learn various routes which will earn you more points, and there are bonuses for collecting one of each type of jewel, plus a large diamond which shows up randomly, so there is a bit of tactical play needed if you want to really hit those high scores. Practice rewards success and there is a nice learning curve for each hole which makes it satisfying to beat. I would have liked some leader boards attached to each hole as it would be fun to beat friends scores, and it might add some extra incentive to keep playing a hole you have beaten.
The game mechanics are easy to grasp, with a simple power meter as your swing, and the ability to guide your Koala in the air towards desirable locations or away from traps or dangers. Some of the traps are interesting, ranging from animals who pick up your ball and throw it somewhere else, through to dangerous spikes or water traps, and the desirable bits are things like mushrooms which send you soaring into the air, where you can steer your Koala to the next desirable feature, or boost pads which shoots your ball off at speed.
The courses are well designed with imaginative features and a lot of variety. They’re always cute and colourful and often have themes like dinosaurs, jungle, desert etc. I enjoyed the fact that your Koala bounces around quite erratically and there is the option to jump which can boost the amount of distance he covers, often being the difference between falling short and running out of momentum, or just about making it to a mushroom or boost pad before setting him off on another run. You can put some nice combos together and have the little chap bouncing around different objects, in the air, and bouncing off walls, looking for his next target. Very occasionally, the camera acts against you when trying to locate that next landing point, but generally it is easy to navigate.
There are lots of options to customize your club, Koala, and golfer. Instead of a club, use a hockey stick, and dress your Koala and golfer up in different hats and clothes, and give him glasses, and different hair unlocked from earning points.
As most new games are, there is currently not much online activity to play against others, but there is a local option and the ability to host and invite Steam friends to play.
If you enjoy casual games, don’t let the golf label put you off, as it is more like a pinball game than a traditional golf game. It is bright, cute, and very addictive, but can be quite challenging.
