About

Welcome to Gaozhou, Guangdong — the Lychee Capital of China! "Know Your Lychees" is a casual minigame collection that blends lychee education with relaxing gameplay. Travel through different towns, using observation, memory, and quick reactions to gradually learn over 30 lychee varieties such as Bai Tang Ying, Gui Wei, and Fei Zi Xiao, while experiencing Gaozhou's orchard scenery and local culture.

Eat Lychees (Match-3): Collect lychees into bamboo baskets and complete match-3 pairs, clearing the table of layered lychee piles.
Know Lychees (Memory Match): Memorize the appearance and names of lychees, then flip cards to match them — progressing from picture-to-picture to picture-to-name, putting your memory to the test.
Find Lychees (Speed Search): Find the target lychee variety among a spread of cards within the time limit. Sharp eyes and quick hands are the key to passing.

Over 30 Gaozhou lychee varieties, with a detailed field guide (traits, ripening period, origin, flavor) unlocked gradually.
Gaozhou cultural travelogue: collect local attractions and cultural elements in the game to learn about the Lychee Capital's customs.
Pixel-art scenes: orchards, bamboo baskets, Guangdong-style stools, and town maps — recreating an authentic Gaozhou atmosphere.
Relaxed single-player experience with progressive difficulty, perfect for replaying.
Edutainment: naturally remember lychee varieties through play, no boring reading required.

This is a solo-developed, culture-themed game and not an official project. We hope to share the beauty of Gaozhou lychee varieties, their origins, and the local cultural atmosphere in a light, playful way. Whether you're familiar with lychees or not, you can start from a single fruit and gradually get to know the flavor of this city.

Know Your Lychees / Come to Gaozhou and Know Lychees is a light cultural tourism puzzle game with a strong local identity. Its main strength is not complex systems or high-intensity action, but the way it combines Gaozhou lychees, township culture, local landmarks, and casual mini-game mechanics. The art style feels warm and approachable, the theme is clear, and the encyclopedia-style collection system lets players learn about different lychee varieties as they progress. In terms of gameplay, it is richer than it first appears. Early stages focus on variety recognition and memory matching, while later stages introduce a 7-slot basket system, match-three collection rules, overlapping cards, visual searching, and longer clearing challenges. Overall, it sits in the light casual, memory, and light strategy category. It is not trying to be a high-impact action game or a deep build-based game, but for a small-scale indie project, its gameplay progression shows clear design intent. The weaknesses are also noticeable. Some rules are not explained clearly enough, such as matching three lychees of the same name to clear them, or the basket being limited to seven slots. Without clear guidance, players may misunderstand the core mechanics. In the default window size, the text on the cards is quite small, and readability becomes more of an issue as later stages become more information-dense. Some objectives are also a bit long, such as collecting 99 lychees, which can make the pace feel repetitive rather than brisk. The overall polish still has room to improve.
Who I Would Recommend It To
I would recommend it to players who enjoy relaxing casual games, local culture, collection systems, family-friendly educational content, and cultural tourism themes. It is also a good fit for players from Gaozhou, people interested in lychee culture, or anyone curious about indie games with a strong regional flavor. It may not be the best fit for players looking for intense action, complex systems, hardcore challenges, or long-term grinding and progression.
Overall Evaluation
Judged as a fully commercial product, it still has areas that need refinement. But as a personal, part-time indie project, it already has a clear theme, meaningful content, gameplay progression, and its own cultural expression. Many small games on Steam lack a strong answer to the question “Why should I play this?” This game does have one: it wants players to learn about Gaozhou and lychees through play. I would rate it around **7.5 to 8 out of 10**. It is not perfect, but it is sincere, distinctive, and clearly made by someone who cares about the subject. A message to the developer: Turning a local cultural theme into a playable Steam game during your spare time is already an impressive achievement. This project has a strong foundation: a unique theme, charming visuals, and gameplay that goes beyond simple quiz mechanics. With further improvements to tutorials, text readability, and level pacing, it can become a more complete and approachable experience. I hope the developer keeps going. Games with this kind of personal passion and local warmth deserve to be seen.
