One of the best in its genre because it's beautiful and gives me that rags to riches feeling, which is very rare for me. You begin by building a very small village and, along several era changes, you can build a huge, beautiful and, most of all, functional city, almost like an entire country. I used to play this a lot in the beginning of early access, when it was very easy. The dev added a lot of "nations" between you can choose, each of them with particular attributes and challenges, and you can also choose a difficulty level at the beginning of the run. I love that I can build exactly how and what I want, the freedom of choosing a game style to match your preferences, which is also almost inexistent nowadays. So this game, even if it can be difficult, it's not at all frustrating. Trade is very important in this game. Without it you can't make money and build anything. To build you must choose from a selection of cards and to buy a card you need money. It sounds lame, but it's not. I think it's very original for a city-building game. You see how your city is slowly spreading across the big (random generated) map and just want to build a little more. Very hard recommend from me. Pros: - beautiful - sandboxy without being too easy; the freedom to choose your own style it's huge - the city becomes gigantic in the endgame and the challenge is mostly logistic and to maintain the balance of resources - large selection of nations and difficulty levels - original card mechanics - dev is very active and listens to the playerbase - very replayable Cons: - I can't think of any, but we can always use more buildings and production lines.

Unless they fix the memory leak, this is not a game you should pay for.
If you like banished/anno/foundations then you will love this game, the production chains are not too complicated but just complicated enough to make the game fun. First I will get all the bad / negative out the way and then move on to the positive. WARNING: The game is still clearly in early access and has some bugs, sometimes the buttons in the menu's don't click properly, I find that clicking somewhere else and clicking the button again works. Sometimes its not very obvious what is a mountain or shallow water because of janky terrain generation.... Its not game breaking, its just weird to get use to. The difficulty modes for this game are a bit redundant, it basically determines how many resources your people will consume, the difference from easy to normal was notably higher so I would totally recommend playing on easy. (You still get achievements on easy which is nice). The combat system is also very nice, I often find myself in a city builder wishing that I had something to project my might upon or having something to defend from, another threat other than nature, sadly this is where the early access shines the most, whilst battles are easy to understand and win, I wish there was a way to see the combat modifiers before a battle (and also stats like if there is a wall and the HP of the wall). Another aspect where the early access shines through is the lack of diplomacy/vassalization interactions, its totally possible to make every other city your vassal, but you don't gain access to their resources or a portion of their resources. It would be nice in future if vassals could contribute resources from their specific faction or region, ally trade routes could also provide a portion of the special resources as a benefit of the trade route level or something. Now lets talk about the good aspects of this game, Lets start with the graphics, overall the game are gorgeous, each civs buildings have a charm to them and I often stare at the different ways that the AI builds. I love the way that the terrain poses a challenge for building though I do wish there was a terraform option or someway to build over shallow water (for when you need just one or two more tiles). The soundtrack!!! OMW!! The soundtrack!! The music has a way of putting you in a creative and inspired mood! I absolutely love the background music in this game! The upgrade loop and tech tree of the game is already very extensive! I love that it guides you through the requirements of what is required before taking you to the next age. The fact that each popup that comes up doesnt auto pause the game is very nice, it affords me the 5 minutes to get some cold drink or stretch my legs whilst my city is being built. There are lots of small other things that make the game shine in a unique way, the card system for buildings instead of the traditional build menu, population management that we loved from banished, the resource chains and production management from anno. All in I would highly recommend this game to everyone!
HEAR ME DEAR DEVELOPER!!! Please add some meaning of go harass other and competitive, it's seem like you just go make them live harder and get some money.I can't deny that this game is really worth of money but I only felt what fun of this game is city planning and manage your resources. The card system when middle game is likely to no use because you can buy most of card, and money are too powerful resource. If I not wrong, you can spam re-rolling your hand for get more people if you want by money. Also unit card when it's develop more advance from research it's feel nothing change just more damage card that buy with money I believe this game need more depth and multiple choice to play by adding some mode to make the game feel more competitive like Battle mode, or Virus Pandemic feature. Now I feel like the longer I take to build my civilization, the more I turn to Colonial Capitalist Bastard
Haven't played in a bit over a year, so it may have changed, but it had a bit of performance issues at the time, every once in a while, even on a pretty solid PC. Over-all a fun game though, have enjoyed both on my own and with friends. Difficulty is accessible to anyone, as the lower difficulties are quite chilled to play through, while the higher difficulties can be rather brutal.
this guys trolling us. quit working on the game then came back to drop solar panels in a midieval game and bounce
Started fun but then plagued by bugs that keeps me from progressing. Logistics fall apart as the city gets large, terrible control over where items are stored. If you want to limit the range people will go to fetch items then atleast have an effective way to send items where they need to be instead of Storage Depots that are buggy/qwirky/unreliable.
27 years ago my second ever city builder was Pharoah by Impression Games. It had everything this game has plus so much more. The graphics are nice but gameplay is rather lacklustre & a bit boring so only recommending for the graphics. Best bpought on special if you're a city builder fan.
