About
You are a witch trapped in a nightmare born from your greatest sin.
Kindling is a top-down action roguelite where you must break magical seals to escape a haunted forest. Navigate through darkness, wield fire magic against shadows, and uncover the truth across multiple attempts. Every death makes you stronger.
Sprint through a forest where visibility is everything. Place campfires to push back the shadows and reveal what lurks within. But light is temporary, and what finds you in the dark won't hesitate to kill.
There are no health bars here. Everything kills instantly. Your only protection is a magical shield that can save you once, then you're vulnerable until it recharges. Every encounter is life or death.
Collect ember fragments from fallen enemies. These pieces of power persist through death. Between runs, spend these fragments on permanent upgrades that fundamentally change how you play. Transform from prey to predator through careful choices.
Journey deeper into your nightmare, breaking the seals that bind you here. Discover hidden memories that reveal the truth of what happened. Each run brings new revelations and harder challenges.
Roguelite Progression: Every run contributes to permanent growth
Fast, Focused Sessions: Perfect for "just one more run"
Skill-Based Combat: Master positioning and timing when death is instant
Build Variety: Multiple upgrade paths create different play styles each time
Narrative Mystery: Piece together the truth across multiple attempts
Break the seals binding you to this nightmare. Uncover what you've done and decide if power is worth the price you've already paid.
Some sins echo forever.

Reviews
This game feels incredibly polished, with tight controls, great visuals and sound design, and an atmosphere that stays intense the whole time. It’s genuinely challenging in a way that fits the game, keeping you on edge while making mistakes feel fair. The campfire mechanic is a really cool idea too: lighting campfires gives you a bit of safety, while extinguishing them to fight enemies feels powerful every time. Taking into account that this was all made by a solo developer, it’s really something special.
I love this game challenging but not in an unfair way. 9.3/10 https://youtu.be/sZkq8Qd0i-s?si=CyjhbMEhzJOjMwTQ
Kindling has to be one of my favourite small games to pick up and play, having seen the creator work tirelessly to improve and bug fix this from the beginning has been truly inspirational. He actively improved the game from feedback and is willing to listen and go "How can I do X?". It was a huge honour to be able to work along side him to help play test the game. The game is both really fun, simple to pick up and play, and easy to learn, but don't let that fool you, it can become a game to improve your decision making, reaction speed and general awareness of your surroundings in other games (Those damn pesky ghosts!). The art style is incredible the voice lines are superb and generally it is an amazing game to play and I have always enjoyed playing this and I'm sure will continue into the future. My review 10/10 game, well worth the money! I can't wait to see what the dev will make next.
Don't be afraid of the dark! A challenging game where fire is your friend and the dark closes in. The spooky vibes and the mysterious story add to the top-down roguelike action. Starts off a bit punishing, light and explode those fires often. Definitely gets easier as you build up your abilities like speed, reduced cooldowns and extra lives.
This is quite a difficult game, so expect to die a lot! The progression system is good. You can try different skill paths each run to figure out what works for you and upgrades get discounted each time you use them so they're easier to acquire the next time. The campfire mechanic is unique and I'm still learning how best to leverage it. It's integral to combat and there are specific upgrades for it. There are also additional perks you can acquire during a run. So while it is very challenging, there's plenty of upgrades to help along the way. Great atmosphere, ambience, music, sound, and voice acting. It is a very dark game and I did have to turn up the brightness a bit in the settings, but that's just personal pref. Lots of play time available with this one. Highly recommended if you're looking for challenging roguelike.
A very atmospheric game that challenges you. The creepy music and sound fit the game perfectly. I died many times and got better at each attempt. With each death, I learned something from it. Be more patient. Expect this to happen. Get this upgrade. Make a different choice. Well done!
good small game i love it
