Holy crap this game had incredible potential. If they don't make a sequel to this they're fools. period. You might have noticed I said it HAD incredible potential. The reason for that can be summed into one thing - the UI. That's it, that's the only thing that stopped this game from becoming a cult classic, game of the year award winner, and the kind of game players looked back 20 years from now and remembered fondly. That said, the UI brings this game all the way down to 'meh' on the scale. It will infuriate you the ENTIRE game. From the ridiculous idea of having to navigate to separate map locations just to throw a couple of items into a fence shop, constantly; to the fact that it forces you to click on annoying little buttons in the midst of a high speed real time game when it could have just automatically done step one that's required before you can do step 2. For example, want to tell your thief to jump out the window to get away? Nope, first you have to move close enough to the window for the option to interact with the window will show up, THEN you have to tell the character to open the window, then and only then will the option to jump show up. Why not just have the option always be there and automate the character to run there, open the window and jump? One click. Done. The only other thing I disliked about the game is that the campaign forces you to use specific skills that you might otherwise literally never need/use. What that means is you'll end up having to either waste one of the three skill slots on one of your favored characters, or pay to keep extra characters on the roster that you'll never freaking use except when some arbitrary mission comes up and demands their skillset. Beyond those two things the game is ridiculously cool. Love the idea of managing a thieves guild. Love the unpredictability of the guards. Love the increased difficulty in certain areas and after your draw too much attention. The game needs a sequel. That sequel must have a dedicated and skilled UI designer that knows what the heck they're doing and understands the game. And open world-ish play needs to be beefed up more, with more variety, challenges, locations, etc. There should also be a sandbox game mode, where the campaign isn't forced on you and you can instead just run your guild as you see fit. TL;DR - Very cool little game. Some annoying UI and quality of life issues, but otherwise solid. No performance problems, no CTD's. Pick it up for anything less than $10 and it's a steal. Easily worth 20-25.
Good story, great art, but very grindy game play. like, ridiculously grindy. Which is a real shame because i really wanted to finish the story, but hit a point where i would have needed to train a new thief from scratch and was not willing to put in that kind of time.
Overall, this game is a good experience. It could do with a little bugfixing, but I had fun heisting and raising my guild's recruits from rookies to master thieves. Definitely grab it if it's on sale and you like medieval, roguish characters and settings!
Aside the buggy mess... It's a really fun game to pass time, the ending is one of the worst endings I've ever seen though
💋
The game has interesting inventory and NPC management, and a gorgeous art style, but doing the actual heists plays very miserably and is what makes me hesitant to play this often. I'd only recommend someone to play this game only for ideas to develop their own fantasy thieves guild management game.
Fun game and love the idea of it. Would be cool if there was a bit more of a tutorial and some on the Menus where streamlined a little.
First off, the game is buggy and a bit clunky. With that out of the way, at its current price point, Killers and Thieves offers more than anyone could ask for. The idea behind it is great, and while the implementation could have been done better, I still greatly enjoyed my time while playing. Too bad there isn't a sequel. Thanks SplatterCatGaming for recommending this game.
Well I paid 88 pence for this game, so I would recommend it at this price!! The game isn't particularly deep and bares a few bugs all of which are sorted generally with a restart. The actual finding of money and trinkets is all too easy and there is no real challenge in keeping your guild funded. I found it extremely satisfying when killing off an entire garrison before slinking back down to the sewers. I would love to see an upgraded version of this game because as everyone keeps saying this is such wasted potential.
The game has an interesting story of revenge with few twists but the gameplay is so unrelated to the story that you have almost no level of immersion there are interesting ideas explored in this game but its incomplete it needed more time to be really good still i recommend it especially on hard difficulty, if you are running low on coins and barely managing to progress thats when it shines
