Yes its free and still feels like old game. BUT free version gives NO characters to play. So to play this "free" game you need to spend money. Only the download is free which is dumb AF.
New update New Me *picks the same character*
I am one of the biggest Killer Instinct (64, SNES and N64) and I was more than happy when MS gave us a sequel to this fantastic franchise. Overall the sequel is well done and aligns well with the original arcade games. I find the combats simplier and easier to execute than in previous games. Making it sometimes a bit too mucha button smasher. But hey, Killer instinct it is. I really want a new one in 2026. Still one of the best fighting games franchises ever ever.

nearly 20 years later and its still one of the best fighting games ever still
★★★★★ Killer Instinct is one of the most underrated fighting games of the modern era, featuring incredibly fluid combat, a unique combo system, and an outstanding cast of diverse characters. The combo breaker mechanic adds an extra layer of strategy, making every match exciting and unpredictable. With excellent rollback netcode, beautiful visuals, a fantastic soundtrack, and smooth gameplay, it offers an amazing experience for both casual and competitive players. Learning advanced combos takes time, but mastering the system is extremely rewarding. Pros: Unique combo system, excellent online netcode, diverse roster, amazing soundtrack, smooth and responsive gameplay. Cons: Steep learning curve, some characters require DLC. A hidden gem and one of the best fighting games ever made.
