About
Kill the Lich is a minimalist incremental game centered around time compression and resource propagation. Your resources build automatically over time, but their growth accelerates when you optimize their downstream flow ratios, and you can manually push them along to go even faster. Each action grants attributes that reduce the requirements of other actions, allowing you to push further. Eventually, you can head north to Fight the Lich's Forces in an automated Phase 2, gathering three vital resources that make your next loop faster and unlock new goals.
With each loop, you gain access to an expanding web of actions. Your goals and strategies will constantly evolve as you prepare for the ultimate fight. As you delve deeper into the system, the number of available actions scales to over 300.
As an idle game, the math takes center stage. Every formula is fully exposed so you can see exactly how to respond to it. A scrollable map with multiple zoom levels lets you step back and visualize the exact state of your complex network at a high level.
Your primary resource — Momentum — generates and increases automatically. Your core gameplay loop involves routing it in different directions based on your current objectives, whether that's boosting Momentum generation or unlocking new action nodes. With multiple secondary resources in play, choosing the correct directional flow is the ultimate optimization puzzle.
Designed to be played over weeks and months, this is a true idle game. You will frequently set up your flow logic and then step away to let the harvest play out, with new unlocks and hints keeping you engaged for the long haul. To ensure your time is respected, being offline or paused banks Bonus Time at 100% efficiency. You can spend this to multiply the game's simulation speed, ensuring no time is ever wasted.
As you play, you will unlock deep automation tools. These give you the ability to dictate exactly when and by how much your downstream flow dials shift, enabling complex decision-making tailored to your current stats and situation.
After a few hours of build-up, you can engage the Lich's Forces. This resets your current progress and pushes you as far as your build allows, rewarding you with resources to spend on a massive upgrade tree. The core strategy lies in selecting the most efficient upgrades to compress the timeline of your next run, allowing you to reach new heights faster!
To keep the progression and time compression flowing endlessly, the game features two distinct layers of prestige restarts, as well as a New Game+ with its own upgrades, for players who want a little more! Each reset layer is curated to continuously evolve the player experience.

for free overall alright.
Something about this idler clicks with me, the story elements are currently unfinished (v3.2.9) but when finished this game will feel like you're playing a storybook if you follow it closely enough, on what I suspect is the first playthrough, I do hope more of the "book" gets added in future updates and the game develops along the story elements a bit more.

If you enjoy other long and slow incremental games such as idle loops and others inspired by it then you will like this game too. Other reviewers are right in that it is super slow and there are not too many options, but if you view it more as a screensaver that you check in on every once in a while and not an active game that demands attention then that isn't really a problem. After your first reset you really only want to play the game when you have offline time saved up but I view that as a bit of a good thing so that I'm not too addicted and can only play so long a day.
Really confusing at first as I had no clue what I was doing but after poking around a bit and clicking everything i found a way to progress and just kept at it for a few hours until I box opened showing the lich dude. Maybe if I had ready the story tabs I could have followed what was happening but where's the fun in that. :P Anyway it's now a pretty good Idle game and looking forward to continuing to make numbers go up and maybe kill a Lich, but mainly I just want numbers to keep going up. Oh and simply put for beginners you start with a generator "Overclock" that powers everything at the start so level that up for a bit till new stuff opens then set the sharing to send some power to the new box. Once new boxes are at max level set them to off or forward their power on to new boxes beyond them, It's just a matter of of balancing power and sending it where needed. Hope that helps anyone who's a bit confused.
not good
a true idle game - don't come in expecting to do more than check on it every few hours, particularly after getting automation set up (there's little optimizations you can do but they aren't needed): you direct a resource flow down through nodes that fill up and give stats that dictate flow speed and how fast things level up, that sort of thing. it's kept interesting by pacing out new unlocks and upgrades at a fairly decent rate and those upgrades accelerate things a fair bit (the difference in time between "no upgrades" and "+20 starting stats" can be upwards of 40 minutes in some cases) . It's weirdly satisfying to see how fast the unlock times get on subsequent prestiges
True idle game. It could be worth adding a side/inconsequential active minigame that gets you extra bonus time or shop points or whatnot to give you something to do while idling for longer periods if you want to.
was enjoying the long form afk playstyle a lot, game randomly bugged and deleted my save. doesn't have steam cloud, only physical backups, and backup doesn't auto-update. last physical back up i have is several hundreds of hours old with no way to fix. glad i didn't spend money on this game and you shouldn't either.
A neat take on resource-flow optimization. I'm predicting the name being a nice loaded gun eventually and hope to find out if I'm right or not. The game is still early enough in early access, as much as I'm about to "complain" about it, I want to admit 100% I barely noticed this until I was near the end of the 1st prestige loop so it isn't actually a problem for me. The game's story cuts off pretty abruptly, I had unlocked the action that lets you prestige when I noticed it had a blue "story" button, I had forgotten many nodes had this, because most nodes actually don't have this. The story only lasts for the first 10% of the nodes or so. I do think the pacing of the game is a *little* slow, but I think it's more lopsided than anything else. I didn't use any p2w currency, and just micromanaged a bit to focus on the closest upgrades that would power up the Overclock and completed my first prestige in ~7 hours. Most of that time was the last ~4-5 nodes I was working on as I lost the plot of my micromanaging and spread out production too far and watched Reacher until the prestige was unlocked. I like that the initial auto-progression mechanic you unlock is the inefficient way of playing, so active play and limiting momentum flow to nodes will speed you up, and I like that every node has a little speedrun timer to let you know how your current build and progress compares to the previous run. This game is a little complex, but I think it threads the needle of requiring experimentation and flat out telling you how to play well enough. With the total momentum being what is used for the loop progression timer, mistakes in efficiency can end up being boosts in the progression if you have a lot of wasted momentum stockpiled in completed nodes. I think my biggest complaint so far is that the stat relationships get a little obtuse. The stat symbols are vector art and after a point they start to blend together a little bit so I forget if I need 'Wave' or 'Integration' for a specific Magic upgrade because half use one but one uses 'Control'. I think it's a complex issue, because I do like how many stats there are around the game to have small pockets of interaction where you move flow around to boost other flow paths. That naturally leads to this kind of problem. The p2w seems like it adds up to a pretty significant boost, but the game clearly shows it will give out a decent amount of p2w currency. Over 10 days upgrading the daily amount to 50 bits per day; where $5 buys you 1000. Seeing the shop items also seems to show this game is meant to be a pretty long term play with the number of systems mentioned. Honestly refreshingly open with the number of games with subscription models. This game is free after all, and (it seems) any of the p2w upgrades can be gotten just waiting another couple days. I have fun trying to 'beat' these systems, and this one seems very fair. I might have to put $5 in just to tip the dev cuz this seems non-predatory. Unfortunately I do think this is a game that won't be for everyone. Most of the game is waiting to make the next minor choice, though the sum of these choices is a decent amount of progress boosting. The progression is more akin to progress bar type incremental games, where the reward for levelling up is more things to level up. I ♥♥♥♥ with this game real hard, but based on the reviews it seems many don't. Keep it up dev, this ♥♥♥♥ rocks.
