Kill Fish, developed by Mikheev Denis and published by Meridian4, is a compact arcade-style shooter that focuses almost entirely on immediacy and repetition. It does not attempt to build a layered experience with complex systems or storytelling, instead committing to a simple survival-based loop where reflexes and positioning are the primary tools for success. From the moment it begins, it is clear that the game is designed for quick engagement, offering short bursts of action rather than long-form progression. The premise is minimal and largely abstract. Players are placed into confined arenas where waves of enemies emerge continuously, creating a scenario where survival becomes the sole objective. There is no real narrative structure guiding the experience, and no effort is made to provide context beyond the basic setup. This lack of storytelling keeps the focus entirely on gameplay, but it also means there is little to create a sense of progression beyond improving performance and lasting longer in each run. The core gameplay revolves around movement and shooting, with controls that are straightforward and easy to grasp. Players must navigate through increasingly crowded arenas, avoiding incoming threats while eliminating enemies as efficiently as possible. The early stages are relatively manageable, giving players time to adjust to the mechanics, but the difficulty escalates quickly as enemy numbers increase and patterns become more aggressive. This creates a constant sense of pressure, where survival depends on maintaining control of space and reacting quickly to changing conditions. Progression within the game is tied to performance during each run. As players defeat enemies and survive longer, they gain access to small upgrades that enhance their capabilities. These improvements provide a sense of growth, allowing players to become slightly more effective over time. However, the upgrades are incremental and do not significantly alter the way the game is played. The experience remains centered on the same core actions, with the challenge coming from increased intensity rather than new mechanics or systems. The pacing is one of the game’s defining characteristics. Sessions are short and fast, encouraging repeated attempts and gradual improvement. This makes the game well-suited for quick play sessions, where players can jump in and out without a significant time commitment. At the same time, the reliance on repetition becomes more apparent during longer sessions, as the lack of variation in gameplay can make the experience feel predictable. Visually, Kill Fish adopts a simple and functional style that prioritizes clarity. The environments are minimal, and the focus is on ensuring that enemies and projectiles are easy to distinguish during fast-paced action. This approach supports the gameplay effectively, even if it lacks visual depth or variety. The audio design follows a similar pattern, providing basic sound effects and background elements that reinforce the action without becoming a standout feature. One of the main limitations of the game is its narrow scope. While the core loop is solid and responsive, it does not evolve significantly over time. There are few new elements introduced as players progress, and the challenge is driven primarily by increasing difficulty rather than expanding mechanics. This can make the experience feel repetitive, especially for players who are looking for more variety or long-term progression. Despite this, the game succeeds in delivering a focused and accessible arcade experience. Its simplicity makes it easy to pick up, and its responsive controls ensure that each session feels fair and engaging. For players who enjoy improving their performance through repeated attempts and refining their reactions, it offers a consistent and satisfying challenge. Ultimately, Kill Fish is a game that knows its limits and operates comfortably within them. It does not aim to be expansive or deeply complex, but it provides a clear and immediate gameplay loop that can be enjoyable in short bursts. Its strengths lie in its accessibility and pacing, while its weaknesses stem from its lack of variety and depth. In the end, it stands as a modest but competent arcade shooter that offers quick, repeatable action for players seeking a low-commitment experience. While it may not leave a lasting impression, it delivers enough responsiveness and challenge to remain engaging within its limited scope. Rating: 6/10
very not recomended poorly made game, not worth your money every aspect of this game is mediocre at best but straight up bad for the most part the gameplay feels like the developer never bothered to play the game for more than one level to check if everything works as it should. the movement is not fluid and lacks some pretty standard aspects (ex. turning mid jump), all reactions are slow making some platforming sections incredibly infuriating (you fall off a platform before you are able to jump) combat is an unfunny joke. the hitboxes are messed up; if you get knocked down the amount of time it takes you to get up is the same time it takes the enemies to knock you back down again, so it's pretty easy to get stuck in a death loop; but most of that can be actually omited bc you have a gun with infinite bullets and only walls/platforms stopping your range (ofc those don't stop the enemy projectiles) you can also roll through most attacks and the enemies can only chase you on their platform level checkpoint (or lack therof) is what ultimately defeated me. they are incredibly scarce and you can't save your progress on your own. the level at which i stopped plaing is quite large with an arena in the middle and a boss at the end;apparently this the very last part of the game but i didn't get the checkpoint before the boss (as should happen) and so i'd have to get through half of that level again to beat the boss and afgter everything this game jusst doesn't seem to be worth the hassle at last i want to also comment on the story, it's not surreal or lovecraftian horror its simple antropomorphic fish monsters. there is no much story either and i might be dumb but i seriously doubt its "multi-layered" as the description implies, no "strong narrative presence" and nothing "thoughtful" and puzzles? there was one, very simple at the beginning, nothing else if this was someone's first flash game project available on new grounds or something i'd be happy to support the developers journey. but selling something like this in major game stores? feels like a scam TL;DR ragebait material, not worth anyones time
If you are into Horror and Mystery and love Side-scrollers then you will love this. A true gem with its hand-drawn graphics and mysterious story. A great game for anyone who enjoys a challenge.
