For me, as a lover of Lovecraftian horror, this game seemed interesting. At first I thought it was a metroidvania, but in reality it turned out to be a platformer with various cool but solvable puzzles. I liked all sorts of artsy inserts, especially with a smoking pipe . The music in the game is also good, but the rest of the sound effects are a little confusing. Overall, the game, despite being a horror platformer, has a rather leisure tone, which I like.
This game hooked me in with it visuals, it presented an interesting story, wandering trough a town ocupied by fish like humanoid monsters, trying to solve a mystery. KillFish has great visual and creative monsters, a some cool boss fights. But sadly thats where the praises end. Firstly for me there is barely any story, and that too is barely understandable, you have no idea who the main the guy, who anybody is actualy, and why is the town inhabited by monsters. We dont know, we never. What we know is that the is an infuriatating platformer with some difficult puzzles, and mobs of monster overwhellming you. And the worst this is if you get while bashing the action it jump to the menu screen where under the chekpoint is the new game option and if you acidentaly press than good luck you can start this agony all over again from the start. This hapened to me something that i have to manualy secure the save file to get it over. I got to the final boss defeated him and game over, nothing, no resolution no explanation, no nothing just the end. I know there is suposed to be notes that can be collected that explains story supossedly, but i could not be bothered to look for them. So in all i cant recommend this game. To me its like a purgatory simulator.
Kill Fish is an indie game with a linear storyline. Hero is almost dead from fatigue in the forest, but someone founds him. Next morning he wakes up in the house of the girl who saved him. As the game progresses, you collect notes with fragments of an important story for the girl. In an attempt to protect her and survive on your own, you kill monsters on the way. I liked the keyboard controls better. If you, like me, accidentally passed the control tips at the first levels, their full list can be found in the settings menu. The mix of music and visuals is very nice, I especially liked the level with red plants and wooden platforms. I rate the game at 7 out of 10. I would like to meet a girl who saved the hero's life more often. And in general, find more reminders of what is happening. In Kill fish, the plot quest of collecting notes is a separate achievement, but you can go through the game without collecting them, just like a big battle with water monsters.
I enjoyed what this game offered even if it was really short. The creatures including the bosses had nice looks to them and their mechanics were pretty cool. I did come across 2 bugs, One was the tentacle creatures not spawning in the beginning level where you come across a well in the beginning of the game and the 2nd bug also had to do with the same creature where I believe if you kill them off screen there was a chance of the noises they make getting stuck on a loop, becoming distorted and loud. The controls were also non responsive at times which made the game annoying at parts. The final thing that almost made me want to give this game a negative review was that someone had the bright idea of putting the New Game button under the checkpoint button. I pressed that button so many times that it made me want to exit the game and uninstall. It wasnt the bosses mechanics or everything I mentioned in the 2nd paragraph that made me want to stop playing it was that button placement that almost did it for me.
As a lover of Lovecraftian horror, this game immediately caught my attention. Initially, I expected a metroidvania, but it turned out to be more of a platformer with clever yet solvable puzzles. I really enjoyed the artistic touches, especially the scenes involving a smoking pipe, which added to the game’s charm. The music is atmospheric and fitting, though some of the sound effects felt a bit off. Despite being labeled a horror platformer, the game has a surprisingly laid-back tone, which I found refreshing. If you’re looking for a stylish, puzzle-infused platformer with a hint of cosmic horror, this is definitely worth checking out!
