Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/U2xvEqmpeVs If you enjoy runners or endless runners, I think you'll enjoy this game. This is one of the best endless runner / runner type games in VR that I have ever played. It has lots of variety in the gameplay & level design / themes. Some levels are more like collectathons / exploration, while others are more of the classic endless runner where you avoid obstacles or shoot targets (get through the obstacle course), and yet others are closer to puzzle levels. There's even a boss level (which I didn't get past). The levels all have different themes as well. One of them is based on a racing theme, while another is based on a toy box, while another is based on giraffes, yet another one has a jungle theme. Each level is colorful and has different sights & sounds that make it a pleasure to discover each level. You only use one of the motion controllers (dominant hand) and you tilt and guide the plane along, avoiding obstacles, throttle is available by joystick on some levels. My biggest complaint so far is just that optimization wasn't the best on one of the levels (parakeet). My frame rate dropped all the way down to 45 fps on my RTX 3080. That really shouldn't happen in this type of game, even if it's running on the Unreal Engine. I do think you have to play this game standing, because you have to physically turn real quick to get past some of the obstacles. Also, I recommend wireless play as well. I don't know how much content there is though. I got to the boss fight in about 2 hours of gameplay. The odd thing is that I don't see other levels on the store page that I didn't visit. So I hope there is more content than that, otherwise I'd be disappointed in the amount of content for the game. I'm not sure though, as the boss fight is pretty difficult. It will probably take multiple attempts. Rate 7.5/10. Lack of content may bring the score down if indeed I was at the end of the game! This is just my initial impressions score!
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. This game is REALLY something new. I've been gaming for years and I’ve never come across anything quite like it in VR. The developers have knocked it out of the park with this one, bringing a fresh and innovative experience that’s unlike anything else out there. Each level is distinct and engaging, keeping me hooked from start to finish. I’m genuinely having a blast with this game. It’s also really cool to see a VR game that’s not just another horror or shooter. The variety is a welcome change and something the VR community definitely needs more of. 10/10
A really cute, yet decevingly challenging shooter. Each level has brought something new to the table, and flying around different environments can be very fun once you get the hang of flying around in VR! So far, my favorite levels have been CocoBongo and Dragorditos Speedway :D
This game is a really fun and original 3rd person flying experience where the plane’s movements depend on your own, using just one controller. The flying mechanic feels great, super intuitive, performance is smooth, the graphics are super cute and well made textures are really nice. And the music? It’s amazing, The speedway one had me rocking out. While there are other games with a "hold your ship in your hand" mechanic, this one feels a bit unique. You’re always moving forward with three speeds—normal, fast, and slow—but not just in tunnel-like levels. Some levels are more "open world" and look stunning. Each themed level is different and gorgeous. The game doesn’t need to tell you what to do; everything is clear and intuitive. Though it seems made for kids, the difficulty is perfect for adults with VR experience, and I had a ton of fun. The gameplay is simple yet the levels are creative and well-designed. This doesn’t feel like an Early Access game; it could be a final version and I wouldn’t complain. Everything is polished. And price/content wise, im not even half way through the levels, havent replayed any levels, but ive encountered boss battles, puzzles, races and shooting galleries... i already feel satisfied. It’s great that the game isn’t limited by standalone VR constraints. The initial levels are simple, but later levels are more complex with bigger maps and better textures. It won’t overwork your GPU, but it’s clearly designed with PC in mind. I hope the Quest port doesn’t hinder the PC version because it feels fantastic right now. Absolutely recommended for those wanting an intuitive, polished 3rd person flying game with nice mechanics and cute graphics. A worthy experience that’s simple to pick up but not an "easy game".
This is a great game. I was given a copy by the devs but that does not influence the way i looked at the game. This game has more to it than what you think. The levels are designed perfect for this game. The gameplay is really a lot of fun. As you can see i have almost 9 hours and i still plan on spending more time to 100 everything. For there first game Flamingo nailed it and i look forward to the feature updates or even Part 2.
✈ Puzzled Pilots❔
This has first class polish & puzzles for adult pilots. This game is seriously fun and harder than it looks. I'm not kid'n around. The video's don't show the difficulty it really has. Puzzles, music, world design, game play, creative twists and turns, everything is very well done. It has a puzzle aspect to it that seriously makes it WAY MORE FUN than I was expecting. I literally died MANY times on the rubix cube one, it had got so challenging (in a good way). I had to build up my flying skills to a whole new altitude to beat it. Got questions? Stop by and say hi... 🔥►Meet people FLYING now (in group CHAT link below) 💬►https://steamcommunity.com/groups/joinusinvr 🏆►VR Giveaways and CHAT 🏆 There was only 2 things I wish the game would change. (1) I HOPE they add more flight mechanics. The "kid pilot" mode should stay. But moderately realistic flight physics "ace pilot" mode would be fun to unlock after 3 levels. Where the direction of flight is effected by pitch and roll. Then also a "flight stick" mode where instead of holding it, we control with the motion controller stick. This would add a fully new level of fun. The second thing I HOPE they add (2) is multiplayer. Let me race friends, co-op help and try to get levels done faster, maybe fight for points, etc... But honestly, It's already really fun as-is. I just want EVEN MORE from this dev team. Want a more detailed review, here's one from one of our game-testers.... 💥DETAILED REVIEW► https://steamcommunity.com/id/badillin/recommended/2484570/
"Just flying around is a lot of fun. Make sure you play it with a spinning chair. Being able to spin 360 degrees makes this game incredibly fun. This is VR movement freedom. I think more games should use this kind of movement; it works so well. Very challenging game, I kid you not!"
Do NOT underestimate this game!
It looks very innocent at first, but challenges you right after the first level! I just got off my first session: 1 hour straight. And these are my recommendations if you are looking to buy this game:
1. Be ready to make full 360° spins, literally.
If you want to go back in the other direction from where you came, you will have to turn your whole body to do so. Having your cable hang down from your ceiling would be almost a must for this title, in order to avoid getting tangled. I experienced it with my old rift, which meant that a 3rd sensor was necessary for that glitch-free tracking, but if you are running one of the newer headsets, then you should be fine. Just have your cable out of your way.
2. Be ready for a challenge!
The first level takes it easy on you for you to get your newbie VR Pilots license, but the following levels increase in difficulty rather fast.
3. The variety of the levels are really refreshing.
Up to this point I have come across the Introductory ´follow-me´ tutorial, then an endless runner type of level, in which it seems 90% of every reviewer tend to die in XD, then a fast race track, a puzzle type of level, and my arch enemy, the Coco Bongo; another endless runner type of level, but randomized, which makes its worth to replay afterwards and beat your own record. Up to this point I haven´t got past that one, but I know that there are still a couple of more to go.
3. Set up your language
in the exit menu, or when you start the game for the first time.
4. Have fun and be emersed.
All in all, I recommend this game, and I´ll be posting a follow-up once I have been able to beat it.
Kid Pilot is a surprisingly fun, unique and polished game that takes the base concept of Xortex from Valve's "The Lab" and expands it into to a fully realized experience. The controls are simple and intuitive, and the various environments and stages are well through out. Some are 'on-rails' experiences, while others encourage exploration and discovery. The challenge level ramps up pretty quickly, but is never overwhelming.
Kid pilot is a high quality game that has become my favorite vr title, not only the controls are great and very easy to learn, but the experience is very polished and it is amazing how fun this game is. I can't recommend it enough. If you are new to vr, it is the perfect game to go, or even if you are a veteran on the virtual reality, Kid Pilot is quite challenging. It is a really good game to familiarize friends and family with VR.
