Alone in orbit with a corpse and no way to reach Earth, play as an astronaut who must keep a defunct space station aloft. Maintain the onboard systems, deal with the constant threat of space junk, and navigate the dark halls in zero-gravity. Day by day more systems fail, and the void draws closer.

I can't recommend this. The game starts with a promising opening cutscene, but then instead of responding to the events in the cutscene the player is given a checklist of places to visit aboard the ship. I tried navigating my way around the ship but the camera would frequently wildly spin out of control for no reason. The last time this happened the camera ended up focussed on a sign labelling the workshop I had planned to enter as "WORSHOP" and I realised I was wasting my time on this 'game'. I love the premise but it's clear that the developer(s) had no idea what to do beyond that premise.
(с) Sorry Chair Productions

Kessler Syndrome is an amateur/indie adventure game where you need to survive by moving around in 3D on a damaged space station. Cool premise, it's a shame about the implementation. One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience. It's also very short, and I know it's free, so that's fine, but it should factor into your decision about whether you want to download this or not. It feels a lot like a tech demo or a student project. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets with a crap 2D retro pixel filter slapped over, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the early 1990s. You can't turn the filter off, either. This very poor quality visual style is a method that lazy devs often use to disguise their lack of talent/interest in doing the graphics properly and trying to disguise it under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with. The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at around 1440p, there's no support for the state-of-the-art 4K or higher resolutions. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers. Bewilderingly, while the game includes proper audio controls, they don't work!! So you can't turn off the annoying game audio (it's not very good), you'll need to alt+tab out and stop the game sounds using the Windows sound mixer. This is obviously not okay and it's unclear why the developers chose not to bother testing this basic feature. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. Worse, there's some bug (I think) that causes your view to snap around wildly and erratically... this makes the game really annoying to try play. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 6 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you download this game? The game is completely free. This is noble a gesture that shows dedication to both gamers, and the gaming industry. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budget/quality compromises.
Has the same style of bugs you'd expect from a unity game. Occasionally you just won't be able to pick things up and because there is no saving, that's it, you gotta start all the way over. Also bugged where if you die on certain levels it will send you back a couple days. Good atmosphere, but won't be worth the time to play because you're just as likely to hit a bug somewhere and then you'll have to start all the way over.
I hate being negative, I really do... but Kessler Syndrome was extremely disappointing...
While working in a space station, your crewmate dies due to "falling" debris. Now you ough to try your best to survive inside what's left of the ship. Gameplay consists of navigating the ship and fixing any issues that arise... however, I can't really say it's engaging. You have full, zero-gravity 360° movement: super annoying and disorienting, though unique, and once you get used to it, it's only slightly tedious. But the part of checking the equipment... ouff. You just... go and click on things, sometimes having to previously pick something else. Some assignments have a higher priority than others, but they're not really well conveyed at all (e.g.: I kept dying on day four due to an oxygen problem, but the time I had to fix it seemed random, and thanks to the confusing ship layout, I may have had to try that 7 times or so...). What if one of the assignments required you to detatch a module due to it being too damaged? What if you had some kind of oxygen and pressure level to know what's going on? What about some laser beam redirector being broken, making you have to fix it? An actual threat! Something other than checking error messages, clicking at the gym, or fixing wires/[strike]dying of suffocation[/strike] fixing the oxygen... As for the ending... well the
nuclear bombs
were cool, though predictable...
and then you die, fin.
I don't want to be mean, or discourage the developers... but this was extremely disappointing... So much potential... wasted... Keep on trying though, devs! The atmosphere was great and the concept was cool! ❤️
A great experience for free. Great atmosphere and while mundane in terms of gameplay it was a fun thing to go through and explore, but mostly get lost in. I had a blast.
I was very close to giving this game a Not Recommended review. PROS: Set on a space station getting wrecked by debris, which is a growing concern in the real world Movement tries to simulate being in space, in an environment where up and down don't exist Nice horror buildup and simulation CONS: Slow gameplay Graphics are poor in a bad way; I like retro games, but this is more like...a modern game engine that was tweaked to intentionally have poor render distance, terrible aliasing No inventory system Interior of the station doesn't seem realistically designed
A very nice, short experience with a very good atmosphere that leans a bit on the creepier side. Being stuck in space in a spaceship that is just failing day after day is not a situation i'd want to be in, and this hour long simulation game cements that for me. Overall, there were a few issues with it, but for the most part, it's a nice way to spend an hour. It's also free, so cant complain there.
So basically you're in this spaceship, and you're an astronaut. And something suspicious is going on while you complete some tasks. Tasks such as fixing wires, fixing comms, fixing oxygen and swiping a card. In the end, you go out of an airlock and get ejected into space. I've played this game before, but I have no idea where.
Length 50min Game is basically a simulator, where you play as an Astronaut who is trying to keep their space station together, after the damage of debris kills your colleague and damages the ship. The gameplay is done over multiple in-game days, where you will be having to inspect different parts of the ship and repair everything you can. There are ways for the player to die, but for the player to succeed they just need to remember the layout of the station. Honestly had a fun time playing the game, while the gameplay is basic with it mainly being exploration. The game does a great job with physics and design, to really make the player feel like they are in space on a space station. The audio worked well when finding the damaged wires, and at no point did I really feel lost. The deaths in my playthrough were self-inflicted as I was not expecting for the air to run out so fast. It really felt like you were in a race for survival patching everything just for the next day something else to break. While it did take me a moment to work out how to do the space walk, it was a great visual seeing the astronaut suspended in space. Worth the play, and a real great job for making an interesting game.
