Kaizo Block has made me actualize the full potential of video game difficulty, subsequently making every other game easy to an unplayable degree. Compared to Kaizo Block, games known for their difficulty such as those in the Dark Souls series are child’s play to me now and only take but a fraction of my power to complete. I am but a god who’s plateaued above concept of struggle; Honed by the grindstone of Kaizo Block. I now await anything that can give me the same taste of defeat that this game has blessed upon me. Overall solid game 8/10

Kaizo Block is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. This platformer was a dismal failure for some obvious reasons... advertised as a precision platformer, the graphics were so bad nobody even bothered to play it. But here's a thing that I think deep down we all know... when developers can't work out how to do graphics properly, it turns out they also usually don't know how to do the rest of the job of a game developer properly, and that's painfully obvious with Kaizo Block. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. This features really godawful minimalist MS-Paint tier pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
Positives: - Great, fluid, and very fast paced movement - Well thought out level design, while challenging, it hasn't yet hit a point where I was overly made, or felt the game was screwing me over - Banger soundtrack - Indie visuals (this is a compliment, gives a very comforting vibe, which compliments the intense gameplay well) - Free! Just give it a try! Even if it doesn't feel like your kinda game! Negatives: - Theres a chance it's just my old keyboard, but occasionally my inputs seem to be out of order (happens the most with jump dashing) - A bug on the tutorial where it does not let you do the input it is telling you, but this can be bypassed by backtracking until the prompt is not visible and going forward again, it should then unlock the key binds - No way to change which screen the game opens on, it will always open on the primary monitor - The music volume sometimes has a mind of its own -I hate the developer Overall an 8/10, and I can't wait to get further in the game! All the issues i listed are minor and can/probably will be patched out. Again it is free so give it a whirl. Can't wait to see what else this guy makes! EDIT: issues were fixed (except for the screen opening thing) but the developer kicked my dog so I'm not removing the cons list edit 2: kaizo block
