Experienced on the Oculus Rift
I usually don't give negative reviews for free & educational VR apps. I thought seriously about doing it for this one though. It is very bare bones. You can basically teleport in 3 areas, one of them being the start area where you only look down at the microscope. Then you get teleported to the second area. Where you teleport around the visual markers. You get tidbits of information about the cells and cancer. Very limited information is given. You see some basic animations. Then that's it. There's only about 5 visual markers. Then you can open a teleport to another area. This time you get to teleport around the area and touch the objects. I think there were 4 objects you could touch and see what happens. Then that was it. If you open another teleport, you get sent back to the prior area. I just didn't find the experience educational. It's more like a teaser trailer for the whole experience. It was kind of cool to see the recreation of the cell in VR I guess. It just has no depth to it. Rate 5/10. I'm being very generous with my score.

Journey to the Centre of the Cell is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this software. Instead of being a game, Journey to the Centre of the Cell is a software application that shows three microscopic scenes in VR, barely interactive, with a little explanatory text and nothing else. If this was a game and only had three playable scenes it would still be a disaster, but there's no game at all in any of the scenes. This is pointless, isn't a game, and provides little to no educational benefit either. For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game. Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop. There's no loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played". This has misleadingly been launched in the "Games" section of Steam instead of the "Software" section. This is a common mistake for developers who are new to Steam, or don't understand the difference between games and software which isn't a game. It seems this software published incorrectly as a game is simply lack of experience/knowledge of the correct process. Here's a link for the process to publish non-game software on Steam: Steam Developer Help With Software Publishing It's unfortunate this process was not known about/followed, resulting in a software application being published in the wrong place. Publishing things which aren't games on Steam in the Games section as games is misleading to gamers and somewhat harmful, because it pollutes the Steam marketplace and takes away visibility and market exposure for genuine game developers who do the right thing and make games for gamers. There are no gameplay loops in this software, no "gameplay", no meaningful game like interaction. It's a software application and as such has no merits as a video game for gamers. Because of this, I cannot recommend this non-game software as a game to gamers.
Journey to the Centre of the Cell is a free VR experience. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. You are shrunk down to tour a cancer cell surface. You can teleport as movement. Has some bio-science learning involved. Needs some in-game instruction at the beginning room for your controller buttons. Could use more science descriptions. Try it, if you like science.

(Vive).
The location is interesting, even if it's the only one. But the implementation of movement on a silly teleportation system, especially without the ability to turn with a joystick, kills the whole point of VR as a 360-degree viewing space. Therefore, unfortunately, the rating is negative, despite the good idea.
