🎮 John Mambo 🎮
Game could be good, but in it's present state is very rough. Lack of controller support, and the need to spam mouse click to shoot are among some of the more annoying qualities. The controls over all feel very wooden.
This game was fun until you reach the third stage, which felt out of place and caused frustration. Eventually I will beat the game but that this third stage already ruined the experience for me. Terrible game.
Finger weg!
A long time in the making, Iction Games' John Mambo finally arrived to Steam. If you played the demo years ago you know what to expect: an arcade taking inspiration from games like Commando or Mercs. Levels are mostly linear but offer a few alternate routes as shown in the video, it's rewarding to explore the maps so you can find shortcuts to avoid difficult sections or get access to new weapons, power-ups and a few easter eggs. If the developers add achievements in the future they'd make the game more attractive for all those achievement hunters out there. Not a bad game if that retro arcade feeling is what you're looking for.
Honestly, since I played the demo back in 2018, I really wanted this game to come out but, after years passing by, I started to lose my faith in its completion and now all that time has payed off. It's a darn difficult shooter (Not impossible or unplayable!), but with a lot of little details and humour that makes this game special, along with it's pixel comic style. Also the fact that you can choose alternate routes, adds more spice and options to a genre that it's usually quite linear. If you love retro games and used to play titles like Mercs, Contra, Ikari warriors, Heavy barrel, etc... you'll truly enjoy John Mambo. THUMBS UP!
This game is so much fun. More than because of its humor, it is because its mechanics, with clear reminiscences of the classic "Cannon Fodder", work like the gears of a good watch. Despite perfectly solvable problems (being able to choose previous stages, comfortably selecting the control system), John Mambo is worth it from start to finish due to the tremendously satisfying gameplay.
