This is a very short text adventure and not everything about the mystery is explained by the end, but it is very well written. I like the style of it particularly. A lot of early text adventures have you exploring huge areas with perhaps a little introductory story in the manual and then maybe a surprise twist at the very end. This one keeps you in the story all the time and exploration areas are kept to a couple of rooms at a time. I think this style uses the format to its best advantage. You just read a clever short story and solve a few puzzles now and then. I think it's definitely worth the $5 just for the clever dialogue and observations of the main character. The sense of humor is very strong.
This is a classic text adventure wit a few modern conveniences and a warped sense of humour. It sometimes takes a little patience finding the way to phrase a command to get the game to properly understand you, but the combination of careful descriptions and suggestions that make it possible to work out what you need to do, and the handy multi-layered hint system, mean you shouldn't get stuck for too long even if you're not the best at this sort of game. Apologies for that stupidly long sentence, not sure what happened there. Due to the passage of time in the game and characters coming and going on their own sometimes, the game world feels quite alive. The language was a little ripe for my tastes at times, but generally it was very readable and enjoyable. No idea how far into the game I am so far but I suspect there's much more to come as the plot seems to be just starting to warm up. If you like text adventures and warped humour, it's a pretty good bet that you'll enjoy this game.

Text adventures aren't supposed to be this difficult to put down. Jay Schilling's Edge of Chaos throws you headfirst into a fascinating science-fiction world packed with mystery, danger, and enough strange discoveries to keep your fingers glued to the keyboard. The writing is sharp, the atmosphere is wonderfully thick, and the game's puzzles strike that rare balance between making you think and making you feel clever rather than making you want to launch your monitor through a window. What really makes Edge of Chaos stand out is its sense of adventure. Every new location feels like a genuine discovery, and the story unfolds at a pace that constantly rewards curiosity. It's proof that you don't need flashy graphics or digitized explosions to create excitement—just a great imagination and the skill to bring it to life. For fans of classic interactive fiction, this is an easy recommendation and one of those games that reminds you why text adventures were so captivating in the first place.
As with Jolt Country's previous release, Cryptozookeeper, this is elevated by an instantly engaging, conversational tone & a very responsive parser, and it features quite a few modern convenience to keep things moving.
An enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half. It definitely goes to some unexpected places. The puzzles are fun, and not too hard. And there's a hint-system too.
Another winner by Robb Sherwin! In this game you play as Jay Schilling, an old-time detective caught in the modern world. This in an interactive fiction game that requires reading and writing, so bring your brain and your sense of humor. Sherwin's (or is it Schilling's?) world is full of things to look at and interact with -- danger, and humor, lie around every corner. If you like text adventures and noir-style detective stories full of biting jokes and witty commentary, this game is worth the money. It's worth 10x the money... just don't let Schilling know you've got cash in your pocket.
