Originally developed as a birthday gift for my nephew, Jackroid is a heartfelt indie game that blends classic action-platforming with Metroid-style exploration. After several requests and growing interest, I’ve decided to bring Jackroid to Steam. Free—as a thank you to everyone who’s supported me.

A Retro-Inspired Sci-Fi Platformer Adventure — Now Free on Steam
Originally developed as a birthday gift for my nephew, Jackroid is a heartfelt indie game that blends classic action-platforming with Metroid-style exploration. After several requests and growing interest, I’ve decided to bring Jackroid to Steam—for free—as a thank you to everyone who’s supported my game dev journey. This is the first game that I built after quitting PCL work (aka automation) seven years ago.

Jackroid was developed 6 years ago, and while I’ve lost the most recent development build to a house fire, I want to keep the game alive and share it with more people. Until I rebuild it or release Jackroid 2, this game will remain free on Steam. Thanks for being part of this creative journey.
If you want to support me please check out my games on Steam! Like "Path of the Ory," and "Maid of Venia."
"The Hive Pandemic" will be coming out late this year or early next and is set in the same universe as Jackroid.

This started out as something of a janky but still playable Metroid-like, only lacking doors (at least the map makes sure you know where you can go), mismatched sprites, and just in general a lower level of quality than you even expect from fan games. At some point, though, it went entirely off-script and just got weird. I passed through a wall, where, like always, I wasn't sure whether that was an official opening or a secret door or a glitch, then I killed some kind of boss that looked a bit like Samus. After that, I passed through multiple screens that were just a galaxy backdrop with story bits, referencing the intro text scroll I didn't care for, and tried to write something deep and meaningful that read like someone's first attempt at writing any story. After those screens where you basically walked by and did nothing gameplay-related, there were a couple more proper-looking screens, though the further I went, the more broken the level architecture looked until I reached a section where the visuals and even sprites looked like they were ripped directly out of the Gameboy Castlevania games. I tried to get even further, but eventually the game bugged out on me. That last section felt like a drug-induced delirium, incoherent, utterly broken, and pointless. I don't know what any of that meant or why it was there, and it certainly didn't play well. This is just a mess of things, and even for free, nobody should play it. It may have started out as a tribute to Metroid, but there are far better free games out there that do that, Ex Vitro for one, The Power (you can find it on itch.io), lots of rom hacks for the originals, or play the Zordak demo on itch.io, or if you're willing to pay a little either Xeodrifter or Psycron.

Good game!!!
