Boss fight twin stick shooter which does most areas of the game competently but unfortunately is let down in the gameplay area with some poor enemy design and strange hit boxes. Hard to give a thumbs up when so many other games do it better.
I don't know if I can say it's worth fifteen dollars, it's a fairly short game for what it is; the first time you play it, everything's hard and it's easy to get lost + the boss fight bullet patterns are hard. You do a second playthrough (like for the no death achievement) and suddenly knowing where all the extra health and weapons are hidden makes it really easy. The hardest bosses are the earliest ones. I wouldn't say that you should damage sponge the bosses, but the moment you get a good weapon (the sword) you are fine. My second run was my No Death Run. The achievements are mostly fine, but for a lot of them are permanently missable because of the game's structure. It's fine because subsequent playthroughs aren't long (bosses are fun but they aren't long, most of the game is wandering around trying to find secrets or trying to get extra health before going to a boss.) That being said, I got this on sale for like two dollars and it was definitely a fun time. I do think it's worth more than 2 dollars just not worth 15, so if it's on sale it's a good price.
The atmosphere/story is like the midpoint between dark souls and shadow of the colossus. If that sounds up your speed, you'll enjoy this game.
Basically a boss rush game with a bit of exploration. The bosses play like a bullet hell and you have a dodge roll which gives you i-frames. Exploration is simple but nice. Despite being a small game, you actually get a good amount of weapons. You can use whatever fits your playstyle or also change things up based on the boss. Sometimes I found a certain weapon easier based on the boss. There's also some health upgrades, and then there's the spirit collectibles which is mainly for fun. I think it was done pretty nicely and a good break between the bosses. The bosses themselves are ok and that's kind of not great because that's the core of the game. The problem is the dodge roll. The boss patterns are built with the roll in mind so the bullet patterns end up getting ridiculous and all boil down to dodge roll spam to stay alive. In other bullet hell games you don't have a dodge roll so the bullet patterns result in interesting deliberate movement (which the game does have sometimes). Other issues include visibility due to large bosses moving around all over the arena and foreground elements in the edges of the screen. Another major issue is that patterns feel reused which also takes away from boss uniqueness (this even includes the final boss). Some of the bosses were memorable though, mainly the ones with multiple bosses at once. I had fun overall, and the bosses were fun to fight, but also not super interesting to fight, but the game was short and the weapons did feel nice.
a fun little bullet hell boss rush game with fantastic art style, great animation, and a really cool atmosphere. the gameplay itself isn't anything special, but the world, visuals, and overall vibe make it worth playing.
