Island Domination
An extremely short game that might be worth a couple of dollars but at it's current price I really cannot recommend it considering how many decent games you can buy on sale for the same price. GRAPHICS: Graphics are fairly decent as it has been made in CryEngine, the same engine used for Crysis but there are a couple of textures that look very off, like your characters hand looks like it's low resolution covered in some sort of disease ridden blisters. For some reason the main AR weapon also has a low resolution texture. Dismissing this, the game also has a freeze every 10-20 seconds that last for a solid second which get very tiresome after a couple of minutes. I tried to put the graphics on low and this did not help. Other than these the rest of the landscape looks great, something a lot of cheap indie games fail to achieve. There is also a third person camera view but this is near impossible to play. The body perfectly covers your view so you can't even see what you're aiming at nor is there any dot target UI for you to utilise. It has a minimap as well as other GUI elements you would come to expect which is great to see. AUDIO: For the most part the audio sounds decent. Enemies shout when they see you notifying others of your presence. When you shoot your AR the sound will also alert enemies that you're there. You also have a silenced pistol at your disposal, but apparently silenced means SILENCE. I turned my volume up as loud as possible and not a single sound can be heard which is very off putting as the developer implies that stealth can be an option as per the controls shown at the start of the game with a keybind being used for a stealth kill. STORY: The video on the Steam page for this game goes on about some story to do with getting notebooks for some guy or something, it really doesn't matter as this story isn't explained whatsoever in the game or when you're even loading the game. BUT perhaps this is for the best because I would hate to see what they would have come up with if they did put something in considering how cringe the voice-over is in the video. The game is extremely short only taking 5 maybe 10 minutes max to complete. GAMEPLAY: Gameplay wise it's everything you would expect from a shooter. It plays fairly decently and haven't experienced any noticeable issues other than the game freezing every 10-20 seconds. It has multiple difficulty settings with the claim that this would provide play-ability, but if you're throwing a turd covered in diamonds at a wall and decide you would start to throw it at a moving target, at the end of the day you're still throwing turds. I gave the hardest difficulty "veteran" a go and didn't find it to be overly different from the easiest difficulty. There is also what's called a "DEV" mode but once I loaded in with this there was no clear indication of what buttons activate what but I did work out that the F keys at the top of your keyboard is used for the different purposes. Due to the enemy placement which is all in a massive line on the backside of the map, and they remain idle until someone is in combat, stealth is not an option. OTHER DETAILS: I feel like it would be dishonest to not also mention that they advertise their discord group on the steam page as well as the main menu in-game. Looking at the discord group, I can see that they have a ticket support system so that you can submit a ticket should you have any issues which I think at least shows the developers maturity and willingness to be open to fixing bugs or other ideas. Comparing their older games to their current releases I would say they are heading in the right direction. In conclusion a game that looks nice, is far to short for the price tag, has a graphical issue I would say almost ruins the experience (maybe my PC build isn't good enough, but I am running a beast) but I really can't dismiss the actual shooting itself. I would rate Island Domination a 4/10. If I could make a recommendation to Softwaves, spending some time working on a multiplayer experience using Cryengine as all their other games are being made in it as well thus they are obviously proficient with Cryengine, would certainly not be a bad idea. As these short lived single player experiences feel like a bunch of asset bundles in an attempt to make a quick buck or two.
Тир на движке CryEngine очень криво сделан, напоминает подделки в редакторе карт для Crysis но там хотя бы НПС и управление транспортом нормально тут этого нет.
Island Domination is a CryEngine asset flip (very rare, obviously it's more convenient for scammers and asset flippers to flip assets for Unity and Unreal engine) from Softwaves, who seem to be using multiple accounts, either to mislead gamers or to bypass various limits and rules from Valve on Steam (many of these asset flips are published under "GamesBraz". The game features the traditional Brazilian SoftWaves launcher as one of several easily recognisable fingerprints from these asset flippers. Don't let the nice screenshots fool you, while CryEngine has always looked decent, the substance of a game is just as important. This is a basic story/level driven FPS game loosely ripping off Far Cry/Crysis. If you want to treat this shovelware as a serious game, it's a very badly made ripoff of Crysis, without the cool story, balanced gameplay, non-stock assets etc. Everything here seems to be made from flipped stock Crytek assets. It's unbalanced and unpolished as you die quickly from the untuned enemies, but this is so badly put together it's not even worth trying to advance in the game. It's basically the same asset flip as Explosiver, Combatant, Obsessive Revenge, The Thief and Rescuer... the "developer" here keeps posting the same asset flip with a different name onto Steam as a nasty cash grab. They've done this 7 times now!!! That's not okay, this is pollution. It's harmful because it's taking up space that genuine developers should have to market their games to prospective buyers, and it makes it harder for gamers to find genuinely made, sincere games. There's a ridiculous $4 USD cash grab scam price for this trash. Avoid.
Short FPS (Under 30min) Just kill all enemies and collect two LapTops. Full price 4$/€ is too much, but if you get this with 90% discount, nice! Easy Achievements, 100% / 20min.
It took longer to download than to finish the game.
Game consists of a single level, which can easily be beaten in under 10 minutes. Lazy, boring asset flip.
The store description was more entertaining than the "game" was.
It is short. It tries to be fun. But for the price, it just does not deliver enough. Feels more like a prototype than a full experience. Actually, never mind. Not fun at all.
