Multiplayer FPS with no servers, playable only with bots at this point. Game have fictional war like setting and some TD elements. After killing enemies they drop plates of food or some treasure to collect. You can buy new weapons and upgrades like health increase, more damage, shorter respawn, etc. A few different weapons at your disposal like rifle, shotgun, LG, rocket launcher, mines, C4, molotov. To defend yourself from incoming forces switch to RTS mode and build some structures because enemy will invade you like a horde trying to reach your strongholds. You can build machine gun and anti-tank nests, support stations for ammo and place a few different type of traps. In order to win spread your propaganda through the radio and kill commanders (free minigun) to hinder confederate forces and lower their morale as it somehow affects enemy's spawn ratio or something. Visually game looks mediocre at best with high contrast and dark textures it's hard to spot foes. Music is unepic. Overall play with bots or don't play at all. For more fun turn on christmas content in the menu. Not bad just hard to recommend now.
This is my favorite game, ive spent 500 hours playing it. Really fun to try beating yourself with all the different difficulty modes and killing armors while building up resources to install blockades that will finally finish your map is great. I like to listen to talks and play this, wish i could find something else similar 100% enjoy it.
Overview

1st person tower defense (but with troops too)
Has some RTS elements — top-down view to build and upgrade towers.
Weapon and armor upgrades, required to take down tough enemy officers.

Gameplay ★★☆☆☆

For a game released in 2008, it was a novel concept for its time. However, the concept development was shallow.
There could have been much more gameplay features than just building construction. For example, waypoints and rally points to guide allied AI troops. Or superweapons like carpet bombing which can be activated via the RTS interface without allies being there.
The implementation of the RTS interface leaves a lot to be desired. It isn't a real commander mode. Instead, it's just a camera switch and you still have to walk your character around buildings and obstacles. No quick panning the camera around to get an informed view of the battlefield status. You also need to be on location in order to build a tower there.
Tower defense games usually have a set number of enemies that you need to defend against. In this game, however, the enemy has virtually infinite number of troops. The game is won only by depleting the enemy army's morale, achieved through defending for over an hour, or killing their officers. These officers bring the meaning of "hard to kill" to the next level by *hiding in houses* and not doing their job which is leading their men.
Playing this solo becomes a very lengthy affair as it will be a long period of time before your base defenses are strong enough for you to venture out and play cat-and-mouse with the officer.

Art & Graphics ★☆☆☆☆

This may be a game from the 2000s, but that's no excuse for lazy map-making. Being low-poly does not open the doors for the entire map to just be 1 color (brown) and textures reused everywhere. If not for the HUD map and RTS view, it'd be impossible to know where you are.
The concept art features beautiful Dieselpunk designs, but sadly, aren't justified by the poorly-made 3D assets. The details and colors were lost in translation.
We are looking at the id Tech 3 game engine, which produced games like Quake III Arena (1999) and Call of Duty: United Offensive (2004) and these games packed much greater detail in their maps and models.

Music & Sounds ★★★☆☆

Perhaps the only redeeming quality of this game is the soundtrack.
The menu and loading screen music is foreboding and serious. The in-game BGM plays out an epic orchestral piece that brings forth an immense sense of urgency while the player haphazardly scrambles to build and defend the base.

Plot & Characters ★☆☆☆☆

Through the maps' briefings and debriefings, we can get a glimpse of what is happening in this world, but there isn't really any sizeable lore or a protagonist to follow.
Any semblance of story progression is just fodder for the map scenario. It's just there because it has to.

Controls & Interface ★★☆☆☆

Standard WASD controls, configurable in the settings menu.
The UI lacks feedback, particularly notifications about upgrades completing or items successfully purchased.
Gameplay hints—such as prompting the player to repair the base—are buried in the busy chat box where bots of both sides continuously send each other useless repetitive taunts.

Verdict

Iron Grip: Warlord may have been the first of its kind, but there are newer and better FPS-RTS hybrids for you to choose from, rather than to bore yourself with this half-baked product.

Tips
If you would still like to try it out, and playing solo, here are some tips:

Start off by scouting the map in spectator mode before the match begins. All you have to do is to find the spots from which the enemies will be shooting your stronghold at the end of their routes. Build your defenses at these locations to intercept them.
The anti-tank turret is the only defense you really need. It deals with both tanks and infantry well, as long as you are standing behind it and actively repairing it with your toolkit. This makes up for its slow rate of fire, typically taking damage and going down before it can shoot enough shots.
At match start, build an anti-tank turret and then upgrade it once. Go to your inventory and buy the light machine gun (LMG). Now you have a good weapon to defend it while it is upgrading (and can't shoot).
Upgrade the turret once more to max out its upgrades, and then proceed to building the second turret, either beside it or at another spot, focusing on its upgrades next. 1 maxed turret is enough to take out a tank and come off with a few scratches.
Always max out a turret before building another one. Building several weak Level 1 turrets will only cause them to get destroyed again and again. And building a new turret costs more than upgrading it.
The machine gun sentry is useful for maps with tunnels. Build 1 near the exit and upgrade it fully once again.
When you are broke and can't afford the upgrades, explore nearby buildings in between waves to find loot to earn money.
Once you are capable of defending against the waves without trouble, build machine gun sentries behind the turrets to "protect" them while they are reloading (lesser enemies alive = lesser damage dealt to the turrets). The reason for building them behind is so that they do not become targets of enemy tanks.
Now you can spend the money on personal upgrades — hp, damage, better weapons and self-healing/med-kit — and venture out to hunt down the enemy officer.

Man why is it not available to buy anymore
Great old hidden gem of an FPS + tower defense game set in a dieselpunk world. It aged well in my opinion and is still a lot of fun to play with friends! FPS and RTS hybrid. Its not bad, its definately dated and its hard to make the turrets not blow up all the time. I had fun though. No story mode, there is a single player mode
Game is dead.
I gave my son this account and now I can't buy this on my new account. I love this game and now I can only play the demo on my account.
I played the ♥♥♥♥ out of this game in the middle of the Costa Rican Rain Forest. It was a split house, so there was a roof over the kitchen and over the bedroom, the middle of the house was open with a huge tree. The sloths would come down the tree into the kitchen, took them forever to get down. And I would scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of them by screaming at this game ( not intentionally)
