It has potential to be good, The art style is nice and the music is good overall. But for now the combat feel really unsatisfying. The placeholder sound effects are weak and lots of sound effects are missing entirely. On top of that the game was mostly too easy for my test and I didn't even know how to use special attacks because the game assumes you are using a controller and there are no instraction on the controls for keybord users. The power ups are given in inappropriate times. For example, giving you more damage for a couple of seconds but only spawning 2 enemies to fight before it wears out. It added to the combat feeling unsatisfying. I might come back in the future to update this review, as the game is just a little baby and it may grow to be strong yet.

"Insurrection: Cyborgs Awakening" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from ESAT. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. The students made a Double Dragon style console/arcade brawler/beat 'em up game with a cyborg theme. Sorry, they tried but failed to make it and walked away after publishing an incomplete game onto Steam Early Access. Which I guess a lot of "professional" developers do, too, but it's inexcusable behaviour anyway. I guess ESAT doesn't teach their students that it's important to finish what they start. The developers abandoned this 3 years and 5 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuinely, completely made games. This looks a lot like it was designed for consoles, but released on Steam instead by mistake. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this never made it to the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. This student project/tech demo/glorified homework assignment provides no Steam profile benefits, no +1 to your game count, and little value to gamers (because it's just a small, unpolished student project), so I can't recommend this over the thousands of full, professionally made games on Steam.
Haven't played a beat-em-up in a while...I forgot how FUN crackin' skulls is! The story is something-something EVIL CORPORATION, something-something CYBORGS, something-something WHO CARES! GO PUNCH DUDES! IT'S AWESOME! You play as a buff bot boi...I didn't understand if he's a cyborg, or if he's being operated remotely by a pilot or what...doesn't matter! He has all the skills needed to save the city or something! There are 4 levels and a final boss to fight thru, each level being a gorgeous synthwave/neo-tokyo full of goons...soundtracked exactly the way it should be. The mobs are basic stuff, but satisfying to pulverize. I think I counted 4 types, plus the boss, but I was having fun and apparently not paying much attention to detail....odd for me. You have a basic punch/kick, and a charge attack for dealing with problems, and also a dash that uses stamina. There are batteries and street-chicken scattered around to restore your stats. The game should be clearable in less than 1hr, if you can beat the final boss... This is a LOT of fun, but it's VERY much in early access as I write this, and it does show. Some notable current issues: After the opening scene, It's difficult to tell who's talking in the dialogue box. You encounter a taunting villain who gets in your way...but you don't see him at all, he doesn't even have a face sprite yet. There are some big obvious vending machines scattered around, they LOOK important, like a shop, but they do nothing. The enemies are dumb/erratic, and sometimes seem more interested is running than fighting...and they sometimes spawn IN the pavement. Also, some hit boxes are weird. The Large charging enemy goon is WAY too strong, he does a ton of dmg, and tends to instantly counter any hits he takes. The only safe-ish way I found to fight him is the charge attack. The charge attack really needs to be aim-able. Enemies move too much. The final boss lady has ENORMOUS hp, and constantly summons goons, including the big guy...her attacks aren't that bad, but you'll get run down by the mobs...for some reason the fight has no music, and she seems to be missing a stagger animation, as there would be lengthy spurts where she'd just stand there getting punched...and even so, I still can't even come close to beating her....dat HP's too dang big. ^ But all of that is totally fixable, and even in it's current state, the game's great! The final boss's difficulty is the only "semi-gamebreaking" problem. My only nitpick with the game is, it would be nice of controls could be remapped. Even as it is now, this is a totally R A D I C A L time to be had! It plays pretty well, looks and sounds exactly like you'd want, and is...early access flaws excluded...pretty much perfect!
Before I played Insurrection: Awakening of the cyborgs, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
