About

Insurgency: Sandstorm delivers hardcore tactical combat where death is instant, ammunition is precious, and victory demands skill and coordination. Experience modern warfare's raw brutality through deadly ballistics, devastating artillery strikes, light attack vehicles, and HDR audio that puts the fear back into combat.

Push through war-torn streets, secure objectives, and survive lethal firefights. With no crosshair, minimal HUD, and realistic damage, every engagement demands tactical awareness and precision. Manage your ammunition carefully, use cover wisely, and coordinate with your squad—because in Sandstorm, there are no second chances.

Modern combat rewards those who communicate and adapt. Choose from specialized classes, coordinate devastating support strikes with your spotter, and respond to constantly shifting frontlines. Individual skill matters, but teamwork wins the fight.

Battle in intense PvP matches with up to 14v14 players or face relentless AI in co-op missions that demand tactical precision and squad coordination. Whether you prefer competitive firefights or cooperative survival under pressure, Sandstorm delivers.

Powered by gritty visuals and an unmatched soundscape, the chaos of combat comes alive without clutter or distraction. This isn't your typical shooter—this is war as it truly is: brutal, ruthless, and unforgettable.

I've been playing Insurgency Sandstorm since the Exodus update, and still find myself coming back at least once every summer to play. The game still feels solid to play, and the lethality of the firefights still feel amazing years later. However, if you are an avid milsim/realistic shooter player, please note that this game came out during the era of: tactical = slow and methodical. In the case of Insurgency, this means your character always feels like he has been sedated and does literally every action in slow motion. Absolutely nothing is done quickly in this game. Reloads, weapon swapping, grenade throwing, and environmental interactions all feel like they've been slowed down to artificially amplify the "tacticool" and "hardcore" nature of the game. The community is still solid, and I have yet to witness any notable toxicity in my 178 hours in the game. Matches still fill up quickly in NA, though if you play fairly consistently, you'll notice that you end up playing with the same guys more often than not. The game has been out more than long enough for people to learn the ins and outs of every map, so matches against experienced players (which is most matches since the game came out in 2018) can quickly become cases of navigating around/finding the head-peeking m240 gunner with 4000 hours on the game sniping you across the map. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if 90% of the maps weren't open fields with a few shacks strewn about as "cover". The game really shines in its chaotic urban combat, but shows its cracks in its attempt at open combat. I would say buy the game on sale at this point in its lifespan. Content updates are free (but slow), the community is tight knit, and the combat is hectic and fun (when it's an urban map). However, the game it does show its age in a few ways. Your character feels like he was animated by an overweight Black Rifle vetbro, and the maps are heavily cheesed as players have stress tested each possible inch of them for 8 years straight, leading to some BS one-sided angles and spawn peeking killboxes. I hate to say that you will rarely find a match in one of the way-too-many open maps where it becomes a cinematic and chaotic firefight. Instead you will spawn and immediately get shot by the guy who has found an angle into your spawn by going out of bounds and finding a cliff face where he can see all of you with his LMG. It's just the age-old case of a game getting stretched to its limits by a competitive and experienced playerbase, and subsequently becoming increasingly oppressive and unfun for any potential new players.
