About
In 1986, a mysterious explosion ripped through the Russian city of Kamgrad, freezing it in time and turning it into a silent graveyard. Abandoned streets. Snow-covered vehicles. Empty town squares. Bodies left where they fell.
The government claimed it was an accident — and buried the truth just as deeply as the city itself.
Years later, in the early 1990s, strange leaks and rumors began to surface. Whispers of experiments. Of things that should not exist. Many foreign journalists tried to enter Kamgrad to uncover the truth, but the city remained a restricted zone.
One journalist, Roni, managed to get inside through secret channels… and was never seen again.
You play as Alex, Roni’s colleague, sent into Kamgrad to uncover what really happened — and to find out what became of your friend. Explore the frozen ruins, search abandoned buildings, and piece together the story through letters, notes, and forgotten evidence.
The answers are there.
But Kamgrad does not welcome intruders — and not everyone makes it out alive.
The game contains flashes of light that can cause epileptic seizures.

This is the first time I’ve ever left a negative review on Steam, but this game pushed me to it. The experience started fine, but everything fell apart once you follow Roni’s track into the empty city. The world feels lifeless and instead of building tension or atmosphere, it just becomes boring. The real problem begins when you drop into the underground tunnel section. It’s a maze of identical corridors, random pin‑locked doors, and zero clues to guide you. There’s no logic, no hints, no environmental storytelling—just doors with passwords that feel completely arbitrary. I eventually had to look up the solution on YouTube because nothing in the game pointed me in the right direction. What makes it worse is that the developer can design good puzzles. The Erased Student had real clues, real logic, and a sense of progression. This game replaces all of that with a confusing labyrinth that feels like padding rather than gameplay. Overall, it was a disappointing and tedious experience. If you enjoy puzzle games with actual clues and fair design, this one will probably let you down.
If all games were this bad, I wouldn't game. I would read books or watch movies or something. To begin with, this game is terribly optimized. Like not even optimized at all. Even with the resolution percentage at less than 60% and all other graphic options disabled or turned way way down, I was getting constant harsh frame rate drops in 4k with an RTX4080. You also cannot jump, even though there is a keyboard command to jump. This means you can easily get stuck in the environment. There are also invisible walls keeping you contained in a certain area, there is no manual save, there is no voice acting, and there is a heavy grain effect that cannot be disabled. The game is also not scary at all in my opinion, exploration is uninteresting, and the environment is lifeless and dull. I quickly got bored and lost interest in playing this game, so I can most certainly not recommend it.
What an insane game! In a good way, for the most part. Some of the puzzles towards the end were a bit weird to navigate around to try and solve. Pretty good jumpscares though. I only needed to change my jorts three times. I hope to see more from these devs in the near future
Pretty good game. The atmosphere was very creepy, and the story was sad. No real puzzles, just pathfinding and getting codes to doors.
Inheritance is a psychological horror adventure that draws players into a bleak and unsettling mystery set within an alternate version of the Soviet Union. Developed and published by VimmGames, the game follows journalist Alex as he ventures into the abandoned city of Kamgrad, hoping to uncover the fate of a missing colleague and expose the truth behind a devastating catastrophe that occurred decades earlier. The premise immediately establishes an atmosphere of secrecy, fear, and uncertainty, creating a foundation that supports the game's strongest feature: its immersive sense of place. The city itself serves as the centerpiece of the experience. Kamgrad is presented as a frozen monument to tragedy, filled with deserted streets, neglected buildings, and remnants of lives abruptly interrupted. Every location contributes to the overall feeling of isolation, and the environmental design does an excellent job of communicating the scale of the disaster without relying heavily on lengthy exposition. Exploring the city becomes a rewarding process because each area contains clues that gradually reveal fragments of a larger and more disturbing story. Rather than focusing on combat or action-oriented gameplay, Inheritance emphasizes investigation and discovery. Players spend most of their time searching abandoned structures, collecting documents, and piecing together evidence surrounding the mysterious explosion that changed the city forever. Notes, reports, letters, and hidden records are scattered throughout the environment, encouraging careful exploration. This storytelling approach helps maintain player engagement, as every discovery adds another layer to the mystery while raising new questions about what truly happened behind the scenes. The narrative effectively blends conspiracy themes with psychological horror. Rumors of secret experiments, government cover-ups, and unexplained phenomena create an ongoing sense of tension throughout the journey. As Alex gets closer to the truth, the line between reality and nightmare begins to blur, making the story increasingly unsettling. While the plot remains relatively straightforward compared to larger horror productions, it succeeds because of its ability to maintain suspense and keep players invested in uncovering the final answers. The horror elements rely more on atmosphere than constant threats. Silence, darkness, and uncertainty are used to build dread, while occasional jump scares and scripted encounters provide moments of heightened intensity. The game understands that anticipation can often be more frightening than direct confrontation, and it uses this principle effectively. Players are rarely allowed to feel completely comfortable, as every empty hallway and abandoned room carries the possibility of something unexpected lurking nearby. Visually, Inheritance benefits from its use of modern technology, delivering detailed environments and convincing lighting that strengthen the overall mood. The cold color palette, decaying architecture, and snow-covered landscapes reinforce the game's themes of abandonment and loss. While it is clearly an independent production with a limited scope, the artistic direction helps create memorable scenes that linger long after the game is finished. One aspect that may divide players is the game's relatively short duration. The adventure can typically be completed in a single evening, making it a concise experience rather than an extensive horror epic. However, the compact length also prevents the pacing from becoming repetitive and allows the story to remain focused on its central mystery. Players seeking a brief but engaging narrative-driven horror game will likely appreciate this approach more than those expecting a lengthy campaign. Inheritance ultimately succeeds as a focused psychological horror experience that prioritizes atmosphere, exploration, and storytelling. Its abandoned Soviet-inspired setting, intriguing mystery, and effective environmental design combine to create an immersive journey through a city haunted by its past. Although its short runtime and limited gameplay mechanics prevent it from reaching the heights of the genre's biggest titles, it remains a compelling indie horror adventure that delivers a memorable sense of unease from beginning to end.
