To be perfectly honest, I don't even know why I play this game. It's just a basic idle clicker game. It's not even near the best idle clicker game. And yet, I log in every day and fish... Do I recommend this game??? I.... don't know
After 2,000+ Hours…
After almost two years and more than 2,000 hours (mobile), I have unlocked all 1,215 Steam achievements in Idle Fishing. Yes, you read that correctly. Over two thousand hours. In a clicker. About fishing. If you're thinking that you'd have to be a little crazy to spend two years of your life on something like this… I won't tell you that you're wrong. A lot of people make fun of games like this: “You just click on fish.” “There's no way this can keep you entertained for dozens of hours.” “Who would actually stick with this?” …2,000 hours. And I did it all fair and square. No Steam Achievement Manager. No third-party achievement unlockers. The rarest achievement currently sits at just 1.5% of players on Steam. However, I don't think that number tells the whole story. If I had to estimate the percentage of players who earned it legitimately, I'd put it somewhere around 0.3–0.7%.

…Enough drama.
Let's talk about how things actually are. When you're playing competitively, it's very common for waiting for five other people to take longer than the actual game itself. And that's exactly why clickers became the perfect time filler while waiting. You give the game a few seconds of attention, make a few clicks, and then you can simply close it again. Perfect.

And back to the drama…
My feelings about Idle Fishing are mixed. At first, I felt very similarly to many of the reviewers. But after a while, I realized something important. The developer made us a free-to-play clicker that, before the Excavation update, required an insane amount of time for any significant progress. With the addition of Excavation, you're able to complete roughly one rebirth per day. And what exactly did you expect the game to do after that? Every developer who manages to create a game with a community this dedicated doesn't want to simply let it die. It's his little baby. And if we genuinely enjoy the game, I think we should be happy that we can come back to it after some time. And believe me… At first, the developer went a little overboard with the amount of Excavation required, but he listened to the negative reviews and adjusted it. That's a big plus in my book. The only thing I would personally criticize is that the newer mechanics don't really stick to the game's original fishing theme.

5 Things You Might Want to Know About the Game

1/5 — If Idle Fishing Were a Paid Game, Would I Buy It?
Unfortunately, only if it was on sale for a good price. But to be fair, no clicker has impressed me enough so far to make me want to pay full price for one. Idle Fishing has a relaxing atmosphere, but it doesn't really offer anything “extra” compared to your typical clicker.
2/5 — How Truly “Idle” Is It?
Before the Excavation update, the game was almost entirely idle, aside from Fishing Contests, catching seagulls, and completing seasonal quests. If you leave the game running, it will relatively quickly build up a stack for catching seagulls. Before the update, the game didn't really require you to open it more than once a day. Now it's different. You can find yourself coming back to the game every 33 minutes and 20 seconds. That's exactly how long it takes to build up 800/800 for Excavation.
3/5 — Monetization
In this regard, the game is similar to Tap Ninja. I'd even say it's more player-friendly. Almost everything can be purchased with diamonds, which you can earn through various activities in the game. There is also a reward system for watching ads. The only thing you can buy with real money is a unique skin, which has no effect on gameplay. 2× W. The game also doesn't constantly push you toward microtransactions, which only adds to its relaxing atmosphere.
4/5 — The Developer & Communication
I've already mentioned this above. This is the developer's first clicker, and considering that, I think he did a pretty good job. The developer doesn't ignore his community. The game is also very easy on your PC. As a player, I get the feeling that the developer actually listens to his community. W.
5/5 — The Negative Side

“If I could remove a few things from Idle Fishing, what would they be?”
The shift away from the fishing activity. Rebirth, although that's something that bothers me in practically every clicker. And unfortunately, I'm an achievement hunter. Once you've unlocked the final Steam achievement, there isn't really anything keeping me motivated to continue playing. Yes, this is also why the update included some ridiculously grindy achievements, which players simply unlocked through third-party tools. At first, I was also annoyed by the update. Not because it was too complicated. But because it arrived when I already had 1,000+ hours in the game. Someone who had, say, 200 hours in the game could suddenly catch up with my fishing progress within a few hours. And that's probably what bothered me the most about the update.

This is a hard one. The problem is: The idle part of the game is tiny compared to the active part. 12 hours offline yielded E64 silver and 333M gold. First active fish I caught yielded E64 silver and 30M gold. That's *without* the multipliers you get from active play. Seagulls or digging can yield x10+ silver and x5+ gold, then you have the treasure chests... Very easy to get E66 silver 300M gold. Longer term bonuses are bought with gold, and it'd take 48 hours off line (12 hours at a time) to buy ONE completely worthless bonus. So, what's the active part? Digging. You'll spend nearly 100% of your in game time digging. Literally nothing to do with fishing. And the digging has it's own set of permanent bonuses, silver, gold, multipliers, etc. So, it's not really an "Idle" game, nor is it a "fishing" game. It's an active digging game. The digging is reasonably entertaining, but now the costs to unlock useful stuff is just astronomical. Not sure how much long the digging will continue being entertaining.
It's a good clicker, you can gamble offline, or you can sit online and do something. It's probably one of the best.
