Klasse Spiel
Dumb mobile game with extremely low effort mobile graphics. Doesn't scale properly on 1440p monitor (all the icons are tiny). When you open a pack the animations are so crude and basic it's 0.00001% of the excitement you get from opening a pack in Hearthstone. This could genuinely have been a web-based game even 10 years ago. When you get a chest from a boss you're asked to input a combination of 12-16 characters. Apparently you have to scour their newsletter, I imagine their discord as well. There is a forum thread also with old ones that are expired. Like, it's not a time sink enough as it is, you have to spend time outside the game to get "codes" to open chests. Pathetic. The only redeeming quality of this kind of games is it is low stress, passive entertainment. Only reason I tried it is because I saw it on someone's Steam profile with lots of rare achievements and it mentioned "Dungeons and Dragons". Fortunately, because it is a "free" game, you can remove it from your account so I guess you don;t have too much to lose giving it a go.

2500+ hours says most of it. I did not expect an idle game to become something I kept returning to for this long, but Idle Champions has a dangerously effective loop. At first it looks like a simple D&D themed clicker. Then formations, champion synergies, specializations, gear, familiars, patrons, multiple parties and Modron Cores start piling on, and suddenly I am spending far too much time squeezing another few hundred areas out of a formation. The best part is that there is actually something to solve. Building a strong party is not just about throwing your highest geared champions together. Positioning matters, restrictions force you to use champions you normally ignore, and the difference between a mediocre formation and a properly optimized one can be enormous. I especially like reaching the point where several parties can run simultaneously and I can leave gem farming or automated progression running while actively working through variants with another group. That is when the game really clicked for me. There is also an absurd amount of content. Hundreds of adventures, a ridiculous champion roster and constant progression mean that there is nearly always another objective waiting. The Dungeons & Dragons setting helps enormously because seeing characters and locations from across the Forgotten Realms gives all the number chasing some personality. I also appreciate that long term progression genuinely changes how you play. What once required constant attention eventually becomes something you can automate and optimize. It absolutely has weaknesses. The interface becomes cluttered, several systems are poorly explained, and eventually you almost need external resources to properly understand what is happening under the hood. The monetization is also permanently sitting there trying to tempt you with champions, familiars and packs. But after 2500+ hours I cannot pretend the underlying game has not worked on me. This is less a traditional idle game and more an enormous optimization puzzle that happens to keep running when I walk away. Recommended, with the warning that it can quietly eat years of your life.
