anime girls and boys I guess
Beautiful game, hidden gem and everything. I thought that the true ending was rather unexpected, but that's my only "complaint" if it can even be called that. It's really a wonderful experience playing this game: the soundtrack, the charming visuals, the mechanics, the characters, are all amazing. The game story was so immerse, fun, and put together; like there are times it can be funny then shockingly unsettling in the span of a second. Like, the game itself has this simplistic feel to it in its everything: text, sprites, and images; yet, the depth surrounding the simplicity is astounding. This game is a refined piece of work and that fact is shown throughout the whole experience. I would say to buy this game as well as the DLC; but it's free, so there is no reason not to play it.
As someone who doesn't play many visual novels, this game was a pleasant surprise. The fact that it's free makes it even more impressive. It's truly a hidden gem among the sea of free-to-play anime games on Steam. It’s better if you play this completely blind, no looking at guides or reviews. It's not just a visual novel, either. It's also a 3D exploration game with visual novel elements. In the latter half,
you'll even have to solve a mystery.
It encourages you to pay attention to every detail and every line of dialogue. Even after finishing it, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface because there are so many dialogue options and interactions to discover. The world itself is reminiscent of older-era video games. It gives me a sense of nostalgia while constantly pushing me to explore further. I also want to talk about the music, which fits the setting perfectly. There are plenty of tracks for different situations, mini-games, and events, and they all help bring the world to life. You can buy the OST on Steam if you really like it. The characters are, dare I say, somewhat predictable and generic. Yet somehow, you grow attached to all of them. Yes, even the old man. And yes, even the
"big bad" at the end of the story.
That said, the game isn't without flaws. When you start, it loads very slowly. When you play, it uses a surprising amount of CPU power and makes my device run quite hot. The game is also missing one feature that feels essential for a visual novel: a load button. Having to close and restart the game just to revisit a choice is inconvenient when a simple load option would solve the problem. I also encountered a minor bug on the save screen where
Chloe's
icon appears in a save file
when she is supposed to be gone.
Another one is when I finished Akari’s side story on Act 2. When she greeted me in the maid cafe, her expression was always looking sad,
which I cannot change for the rest of the investigation phase in weeks 8 and 9.
There are still more things I want to say about the game, but this review is already getting too long. Overall, as I said at the beginning, this game is a hidden gem. Play it and m̴̨̰͙̟̉ä̵̙͚͍͉́͗̔̇̿̽̀̈́͜͝ķ̸̢̝̫͈̩̺̝̔ę̸̼̥̌͆̌͂͝ ̵͖̪͙̤̜̥͌́͛̓̐̏̀͜͝ḧ̷̼͕́̊̇́́͜į̷͔̝̃͐m̷̛̹̻̥͖̦͕̫̝̦͑ͅ ̸͇̰͙̘̂̔ḥ̷͉̟̩̬̺͎̇́͐͑͐̾̓͘͜͝ă̸̛̝͇̳̺͛̕͜p̸͍͓̄͌́̓̀̊͑̓p̸̧̳̩͙͖̗͑̓͗̊́̅̀̈̍y̷͈̼̾̓̾̐͊̂͛͘͘.
