This game was fun, although I had to be quick at reading subtitles :)

A very nice and refreshing kind of game to play! I like it.
The story is short, but quite unique. One thing that I think is lacking in this story is actually in the concept. Monologue. Playing this game feels a bit empty because the main character doesn't speak at all, just need two-way interaction. Note: If you have any VR headset, it's highly recommended. Superlative experience...
这款游戏在玩VR上面算是比较少见的一个,游玩上去,虽然也有点瑕疵,但是并不影响体验,尤其是在一些作答上有点金手指,比较容易完成成就
I’m Surrounded by Classical Beauties!, developed and published by onetake_studio, is an unusual fusion of live-action cinema and interactive storytelling that sets itself apart from the typical visual novel formula. Framed as a romantic fantasy that blends humor, time travel, and Chinese historical aesthetics, it puts the player in the shoes of an ordinary man whose blind date takes a bizarre turn. Instead of finding modern love, he finds himself transported back in time, awakening in the grand He Mansion as a humble servant surrounded by refined and mysterious women of the ancient world. What begins as a lighthearted misunderstanding quickly spirals into an adventure that tests not only his adaptability but also his charm, as he navigates the customs, traditions, and politics of a bygone era. The result is a brief but novel experience that straddles the line between an interactive film and a playful romantic simulation. What makes I’m Surrounded by Classical Beauties! particularly distinctive is its choice to present the story through full-motion video. Rather than relying on illustrated characters or 3D models, it uses live actors, period costumes, and real sets to immerse players directly into its world. The production team approaches this design with ambition, creating an experience that feels more like stepping into a short film than playing a traditional game. The combination of real performances and branching dialogue gives the story a grounded authenticity, even when it veers into absurd or comedic situations. The setting—a lavish ancient Chinese mansion filled with servants, courtyards, and silken corridors—evokes the elegance of historical dramas while maintaining a light, flirtatious tone. The game’s visual presentation in both 2D and VR formats adds another layer of immersion, letting players choose between cinematic viewing or full 360-degree exploration that places them directly inside the scenes. In VR mode, the experience transforms from passive storytelling into a form of interactive theater. Using motion controls, players can gesture, respond to dialogue, and even influence the tone of certain interactions. This format turns simple narrative choices into moments of embodied performance, giving the player the illusion of acting alongside the cast rather than merely observing. It’s a bold idea that aligns with the studio’s claim of creating the world’s first FMV title playable in both 2D and VR. While the implementation isn’t flawless—some transitions feel abrupt, and the limited length restricts how deeply the VR mechanics are explored—it still delivers a uniquely engaging sense of presence. Few interactive experiences manage to blur the line between viewer and participant as effectively as this one, and it’s easy to see why the VR mode is considered the game’s standout feature. The story itself unfolds through a mix of humor and mild intrigue, balancing romance with a light parody of time-travel tropes. The protagonist’s modern sensibilities often clash with the rigid etiquette of the ancient world, creating comedic moments as he tries to impress or simply survive among the mansion’s refined inhabitants. The three central women each represent different archetypes of classical beauty: one elegant and intellectual, another playful and impulsive, and the third serene yet enigmatic. Their interactions with the protagonist range from flirtatious banter to heartfelt exchanges, and while the narrative doesn’t delve deeply into character psychology, it succeeds in establishing a charming rhythm that keeps the short runtime entertaining. The dialogue feels natural, helped by expressive performances from the actors, whose chemistry carries much of the emotional weight. However, I’m Surrounded by Classical Beauties! is not without limitations. The game’s biggest weakness lies in its brevity and simplicity. A full playthrough typically lasts only a couple of hours, and the branching choices—while present—rarely lead to dramatically different outcomes. Many players may find themselves wishing for more narrative complexity or opportunities for genuine decision-making. The reliance on filmed sequences also means that interactivity is necessarily restricted; the player’s agency is limited to choosing dialogue options and performing small actions rather than shaping the world in meaningful ways. While this design fits the FMV genre, it can make the experience feel more like watching a film with pauses for input than engaging in a dynamic story. From a technical perspective, the production values are commendable for an independent project. The cinematography captures the atmosphere of its historical setting with warmth and authenticity, and the costumes and sets are impressively detailed. The sound design, particularly the period-appropriate music, enhances the sense of immersion without overwhelming the dialogue. In VR, performance varies depending on hardware, and while most sequences play smoothly, occasional visual distortions or awkward camera angles can break immersion. The language options are somewhat limited, and players relying on subtitles may find minor translation inconsistencies, though these rarely obscure the story’s intent. Despite its flaws, the game’s charm lies in its novelty. There are few interactive experiences quite like it—one that combines romantic fantasy, historical flair, and full-motion video in a single package. It’s clear that the developers approached the concept with enthusiasm and a willingness to experiment, creating something that feels genuinely fresh even if it doesn’t fully capitalize on its potential. For players who appreciate short, cinematic experiences and have access to VR equipment, the game offers a playful, immersive escape that stands apart from typical visual novels. Those seeking deep storytelling or complex gameplay systems, however, may find it too lightweight to be satisfying in the long term. Ultimately, I’m Surrounded by Classical Beauties! is best viewed as a charming experiment in interactive storytelling rather than a conventional game. It’s an imaginative mix of historical drama and romantic comedy brought to life through film rather than animation, and its VR implementation pushes the boundaries of how players engage with narrative media. Though brief and mechanically limited, it achieves a sense of intimacy and humor that makes it memorable. For those curious about the intersection of cinema and gaming, it offers a glimpse into what interactive films could become when handled with creativity and a touch of sincerity. Rating: 6/10
SO much fun! If you love Chinese dramas, this is for you FOR SURE! You get to be IN the drama! Albeit, I wish I got to be a female character, rather than a male, I was happy to be able to feel what it was like to look around in all the environments I see frequently in shows. It was also really fun to play out some of the common tropes of dramas! I found myself answering back at times LOL. I can't wait to try other answers in this "choose your own adventure" style experience! I really hope they add more chapters, I would be happy to pay for the DLC. I'm really surprised this was only 2.99? Like I for sure would have paid $10 & thought I was still getting a good deal. VR experiences are a big deal to me in VR, anytime I can sit back & just be teleported somewhere else, it just feels magical. I did find it a little weird that I couldn't look behind me, but, really I was okay it because I played seated. I look forward hopefully that they will give us more content, so, I can keep being sent into my Chinese Drama-land ♥
