Greetings Enforcer, and thank you for enlisting in the Hypnospace Patrol Department! As the corporatocracy sleeps, outlaws are out there committing terrible transgressions all across our beloved Hypnospace, and these virtual streets aren't going to police themselves!
Hypnospace Outlaw is a '90s internet simulator in which you scour Hypnospace's wide variety of weird and wonderful websites to hunt down wrongdoers, while also keeping an eye on your inbox, avoiding viruses and adware, and downloading a plethora of apps that may or may not be useful.
As part of your job as a Hypnospace Enforcer, you'll be watching out for copyright infringement, internet bullying and more, with reports and rewards coming direct from the Hypnospace Patrol Department to your inbox. In your spare time, you can customize your HypnOS desktop however you see fit, with a variety of downloads, wallpapers, screen savers and helper bots to keep you company.

fun but tedious
It's too expensive! I finished this game in 2 hours and I just can't say that a 2 hour game is worth twenty bucks. Yes, I should have taken it slower; but even then, a three-hour game would still be dubious at that price range. Considering how long this has been out, it should be a five-dollar game. It's really cool though. Very immersive. Just not worth twenty bucks In My Humble Opinion

The game is promising but honestly quite linear to the point of feeling scripted which affected immersion for me. The concept is good but the execution is lacking. It feels less like a series of mechanics you interact with and more like a sequence of puzzles to solve in a sequence laid out beforehand. For example you get cases assigned to you one at a time (mostly) to solve, and those cases already lay out exactly what you need to solve, like a case that tells you exactly what user is violating a rule and requires a specific number of violations to be found to close the case. The problem is that this made me feel like I wasn't investigating anything, since the cases are already guaranteed to be true, you just have to find them. And the set number of required examples again makes it seem like the case already knows about the violations and expects you to go find them. It's not that the entire gameplay loop doesn't work, but it needs to make the player feel more like they're investigating things on their own. Perhaps that happens later on in the game but even though I've uncovered some of the hidden secrets I can't access them because I need to progress in the linear series of cases. The core gameplay loop just doesn't feel you're actually doing what the game is trying to portray.

This game has been one of the most unique I've ever played. The visuals were great, and it felt like surfing an alternative version of the internet. Learning how to browse and solve the puzzles requires some patience, but it becomes much more enjoyable once everything starts to click. It was a strange and beautiful experience, but it's a shame that the sequel was cancelled.
this game is GENUINELY better than air and water and food. If i was an orphaned child abandoned with nothing left and starving, the only thing that would keep me going is hypnospace outlaw
Dripping with style, but lacking compelling or interesting game-play.
The internet really was like this in the Nineties. I know, I have been online since 1995. Don't call me a boomer, call me Gen X. I code Python and JavaScript at work. I love the surreal retrocyberpunk style. I love this game. It is just perfect.
Every day i close my eyes and drift to sleep and there's just something that keeps me awake. It's that I wish I could play more of this game, more of something like this, but I never will. I know The sequel won't happen but if a genie gave me three wishes I think more Hypnospace Outlaw would be the first thing I ask for. Even still, I'll never forget this game and how the story impacted my life.
If you grew up with this era of computing, or otherwise have an interest in it, you can not go wrong with this game. It's pretty funny, the soundtrack is fantastic, and there are a pretty great deal of hidden sites, files and media that will keep you looking for a while. With a game like this, it really needs to nail the atmosphere, or it sinks and fails entirely. I can happily report that Hypnospace Outlaw is exceedingly consistent in this regard (that is to say, it is excellent). Easy recommend to anyone who falls into the categories I mentioned at the beginning, and I do think it would be enjoyable to people outside of those ranges as well; just perhaps not to the same degree. The gameplay puzzles are quite enjoyable in their own right. 9/10
