Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
Note: Free copy received as part of the Steam Curator Connect program. I didn't want to put a no recommendation on this game because I see the potential here. However, this game is not good enough yet to recommend to my followers. It feels like an alpha build for a game concept currently. It does not feel like a fleshed out game by any stretch of the imagination. I get that the game is in EA and the devs have been making updates since release, however, we all know that this game could easily be abandoned. The good news, is that this game is bargain-priced. If this game ever delivers on the promises on the dev roadmap, it will be worth more than just a $5 game. This game has a pretty decent sized map for VR. Going from one end of the map to the other end does take a while. Unfortunately, this game currently only has a clunky teleportation method where you can't even face the way that you want. The map is pretty as well. You've got lush rolling hills with trees and vegetations that sway in the wind with rock formations and abandoned houses / buildings dotting the map. The main problem, is that there really isn't much to do. I played for a little over an hour and ran into 1 bear during that time and I didn't see any wolves. When I saw the bear, I took out my sniper rifle and pulled the trigger about the middle of the body. I saw the bullet hit and you could see some blood splatter and that was it. There was no other reaction from the bear. So I aimed again and this time went for the head and on target, I saw the bear just lie on the ground suddenly (no real death animation). I get that this is a hunting simulator and that walking / standing around and not seeing any game to hunt is pretty normal in real life hunting. However, I think this game maybe took that a little too far. It did get boring teleporting around a huge map and seeing nothing moving, which is odd because you'll hear chicken sounds, rooster sounds, dogs barking, beez buzzing and yet nothing. That's not even mentioning the pop-in issues in the distance which makes it hard to see any targets. Also you can teleport up in the air or through objects or on top of objects. Did I mention the collision detection issues? Yes, you will lose your holstered guns when you teleport through objects with the funky physics. Good luck finding them after that! Rate 4.5/10. Bargain priced for a reason apparently! I would love to change my review though if this game ever gets several major updates which make it a working game! I think the goat(s) may be possessed by the devil, like Black Phillip in The Witch. There's Black Phillip by the starting location and you can shoot him all you want but bullets will do no damage to him. "Wouldst thou like the taste of butter? A pretty dress? Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?", are quotes that this goat does not say as it just stands there silently, but what evil thoughts it must be thinking! The other goats do take damage and you can kill them, but they will respawn unlike the other animals, and they even sink into the ground! EVIL GOATS!!!!
Animals are not scared at all. There is no sneaking system. You can't interact with most of the things laying around.
PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS! This game is nowhere near in a state that it should have been released at all let alone cost money. There are countless audio bugs, the animals have zero reaction to the player OR EVEN BEING SHOT even to the point where you can shoot something in the head, fire off another shot from your badly mapped bolt action rifle and then it might switch to its dead state sometime soon afterwards. I can see the potential in this game, but it just should not have been released yet at all.
2/4/19 update: The game is still not at a place i'd like it, but the dev has been actively updating and delivering on his promises so I'm changing this to a recommend. At $5 you can't expect the world, and this currently is a "buy and hold" game in that it's not really complete enough to play a lot in but once the gutting system is implemented that should change.
Eine Schande, dass sich sowas "VR-Spiel" nennen darf. Hier stimmt wirklich NICHTS. Weder Steuerung, noch Grafik, noch Gameplay, noch Spaß. Eins der schlechtesten VR Spiele überhaupt! Finger weg! Hunting Unlimited this is not. And yes, I've played plenty of hunting games before. Here there are bears, wolves, deer and some goats that I found. The bear wouldn't drop, no matter how many times I shot it, and I just vowed to myself never to shoot anything else in this game as he certainly didn't charge me or fight back. The goat fled, and one wolf was content to just chill on a rock with a great view of the lake. Another was more bitey, but he didn't do me any harm either. I love my hunting games, but on this one you can honestly pet the critters as it just seems unfair, and they seem immortal anyhow. Is it worth the sales price of .49 cents USD? Dude, I chilled on a rock with a wolf and petted him, so heck yes!
Good game, but a few animals are missing from in maps
Sadly, I cannot recommend this game to anyone. Problems: 1. Launching the game brings up the Unity graphics settings menu every time, so if you're already in VR, you have to swap to the desktop view to hit OK and continue launching the game. 2. Mouse movement and positioning will interfere with the game, if the pointer is left on top of the game's desktop window. 3. The game's floor doesn't calibrate properly. if you drop something, you'll never get it back. 4. Gun sound effects stopped working once I left the cabin. 5. Shooting a creature in the head creates tons of blood spatter, but it does not die. At least with the pistol anyway. I can't tell you what happens if you shoot something with a hunting rifle because I dropped it. The animals also make no sound. Maybe it'll be better later on, but for now I'd hold off on it.
Also ich habe es gekauft da es irgendwie interessant aussah und habe es mir auch geholt, es ist eine Bereicherung für mein Leben und bin nicht sehr glücklich das getan zu haben.
I would not recommend this game at this moment CONS : - Locomotion is tedious and does not feel immersive - Animals have no awareness whatsoever - When you shoot an animal, it stands there for a few seconds and drops dead. Not very realistic - Graphics are meh and choppy - the teleporting breaks immersion PROS : - It cost me only 2.99€ - It launches (most of the time)
