Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
Huckleberry Falls: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It all started in a small town named Huckleberry! It was a beautiful spring day; the sun was shining, and the birds were singing in harmony. But a different sort of harmony was brewing at the town’s resting place; Undeads were crawling out of their last estate and going on a rampage towards any living creature. It only took a few weeks to send our world into chaos. The amazing part is that some Huckleberry folk managed to survive the initial outbreak! All will be revealed in Huckleberry Falls. Huckleberry Falls is a match 3 game, developed and published by Fatcat Games, with over 100 levels to clear. The game will start with your hero standing beside a plane at the bottom of a map which will scroll up as you progress within the game. Each of the levels will be represented by a tomb stone and will be activated as soon as you click on them. As you enter a level, you’ll see a grid of squares, 9X9, with between three to five different types of zombie. The bomb machine will be displayed on the bottom left corner of your screenshot and will have different colour bombs to use on the grid. Each of the bombs will destroy five squares each time. However, each colour bomb has specific alignments; the green bomb will get rid of five squares horizontally, the black one will destroy squares as a plus sign for example. As you know, you must match three of the same colour zombies to activate each of the bombs. However, if you have four of the same zombies, an additional bomb will appear randomly on the grid for you to use. Mind you, they have to be part of a match 3 to be activated. The other one I personally like is the three by two match. Every time you get this combination, a mine will appear on a square and will blow up another set of zombies. Brilliant for multiplying your points. Depending on the move, you might even receive additional XP points as well. Early on, you’ll have to rescue a character, and after that you’ll gain access to a pendulum with six different spells to use on the grid. Each of these spells must be charged before being available to you. How do you charge them? Very simple . . . all the red zombies killed will charge the meteor spell, while the green zombies will go towards the acid shower spell. There are several variations within the levels. In some of the levels, you’ll have to reach a certain number of points, collecting parcels or mushrooms, and rescuing other characters without running out of bombs, to mention a few. Each time you rescue a character, you’ll have the opportunity to make him/her join your party. Every character has five talents and you can upgrade these talents with the XP points you collect. Bear in mind that you can only add a maximum of five individuals to your party. There are other locations on the map as you move on. In most of these places, you’ll have to choose between three available objects to successfully to receive rewards, which are either XP or coins. For example, to open a door, you will have to decide which of the following three objects is more likely to work; would it be a fishing rod, a crowbar or a bucket of water? The other location you can access for rewards is the sewers. There, you’ll be squashing rodents for 30 seconds with a hammer for coins. After this hectic splatting, you’ll be able to buy new trinkets for your characters at the hobo shop (if you have enough coins, of course). Every twenty levels, you’ll be fighting a boss, and it will take you several attempts to beat them. Graphically the game looks good and it is very addictive. I personally like the variation of levels, which is needed in this style of game. The soundtrack suits the game very well but can be annoying after a while. You might become a bit frustrated, especially if you restart a level for the 10th time. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Nice graphics + 100 + Levels with 8 variations + Easy to play and addictive + Achievements and trading cards Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - Can be frustrating at times A fun and addictive match 3 game with good variations! 7/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes.
Huckleberry Falls
A new kind of match game! Set in a post apocalyptic world, use your wits and bombs to survive. Positive Points •The music is really good, very reassuring for what one would expect with a title of this ilk, it reminded me of the game music
Plants vs. Zombies
. •The tutorial is simple but concise, so in a few words it will explain everything necessary and without turning the subject around. •Below the levels, which are symbolized as tombs, we could see if we exceed the maximum score or not, this is seen by the 3 skulls of the colors that appear below the tombs according to the score we surpass (The skulls are made of bronze , silver and gold). •When making combos we will have different buffos, usually they leave us a bomb which has a special function and different from the normal ones. There are a lot of different combos that could be done without getting tired. •Very useful option and what makes me happy what it is to be able to discard the bomb what you have to use at the moment, without this happening. •If you have pumps left at the end of a level, there is not a lot of damage and points. •This really surprised me and it was something I did not expect; DECISIONS, as well as the legend, the interactive objects with the map will give us a choice to be made in such situations. •For example: blue bombs occupy a square of 3x3 in the corners and the center, while green bombs occupy a straight line of 4 blocks. •There are "skills" so to speak, which are really useful at all times when you want to use them. •Different "modalities or missions" so to speak, by this I mean: at one level we will have what 10 bags to get what is inside, at another level we have to reach a certain score, at another level we have to put together 20 bouquets of flowers, among others. •You have the world markers of the levels with only select the level of which you want to know the score. •At first it seems that it is easy but that it is fulfilled. •We will have the possibility to use many different characters to face our enemies, and each of them has their own abilities. •It has stickers. •The scenario of the map is well designed with its own animations, a very good detail. •We can fight bosses to get great rewards. •Possibility of rescuing people to join your group and fight by your side in the adventure. •The requirements are very low. •Funny achievements and that generate that need to obtain them. •It is cheap. •Best of all is what is fun and you want to spend time trying to beat the levels or your own score. Neutral Points •It is only available in one language but in any case it is understandable since the developer has to concentrate on other things, besides what is not a game where the text has a lot of presence. •Normal HUD, has nothing remarkable but nothing that is too bad to lose many points to it. •Some sounds are good while others are bad, they vary from one another. •It has a very poor story, what else is all done as a pretext to put the game in it. Negative Points •Some dialogs take several seconds to appear, for no apparent reason. •The system of improvements / equipment is not completely understood, it is very unusual. •All the powers of the amulet charge too slowly, making it almost useless. •It has been 1 month without updating, since its launch. Conclusion It is a good game that weakens at some other point but what in the general note stands out very well. I recommend buying it if you want to try something new. It's a good & challenging game (especially of your color-blind like me). In a way I found it to be the reverse of the standard match-the-symbols games that are out there. I have enjoyed playing the game quite a bit, but I’ve been stuck at level 75 for a few days now and I’m not willing to put any more time into it. I’ll probably come back to it later… I still recommend this game.
zombie-themed match-3 with a few unique(ish) selling points. used to be paid, only 5 bucks but still didn't sell, so it was made free. actually free, no payment necessary, no dlc, iap or other nonsense. well, not monetary nonsense anyway. 100+ levels unlocked one by one, with individual leaderboards. instead of the usual matching techniques, it employs an explosive one. the cursor is a cross or other shape depending on bomb type, places one in the highlighted area, provided there are at least 3 of the same color, covered by the pattern. poker rules also apply, so 3 blue + 2 green and such are better and result in other kind of bombs on the field. once spells are unlocked, they have to be charged with different colors, then can be used with hotkeys as well, but controls are buggy. bringing up the pause menu often keeps the cursor on the level in the background and you'll only get the menu cursor after successfully placing another bomb first. on a darkened level covered partially by the menu. great stuff. oh, and the spell amulet resets with every level or retry, incredibly tedious. another annoyance right out of the gate is only the bronze goal for the level is shown beforehand, instead of saying 12k for bronze, 20 for silver, 30 for gold or whatever. let me know what I'm aiming for, dammit. only telling the player the rest after finishing the level, and still only showing the next goal on level select is a ♥♥♥♥ move on top of a ♥♥♥♥ move. and if there's a non-score task as well, you can't even see the score goal while playing. replaying a level still plays all the tutorial dialog every time, has to be skipped sentence by sentence. it was taken out, then put back for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up reason. can't restart a level, gotta quit and select it from the map again, where level numbers are only shown on mouseover. no replay level (or any) button on the level complete screen either, unless you fail. no difficulty settings is a major problem, what with most levels being limited-resource/turn, only a certain amount of bombs to achieve the goal with. the dispenser doles out munition randomly, so you might want to discard the current one without the counter decreasing. can be done once per turn but bombs are limited, so it's a mixed blessing at best. no two ways about the goal, if you're told to get 10 supplies, gotta get them all to pass, only the score is negotiable. not getting enough points for a bronze still unlocks the next stage, but the level ends after reaching the current score goal even if you have bombs left and could get more points or multipliers for a better rating. remaining bombs are auto-used on the level but it might not be enough. guiding survivors to the end/bottom of a level is tedious too, as cleared path tiles turn back to impassable ones in a matter of seconds, it's not turn-based. that's on top of other varieties of timed levels and boss fights, but seeing as I gave up on level 15 after a billion attempts, I didn't get to experience those. lucky me. there are multiple playable characters. you start with 2, find more on the way, can have up to 5 with one active. they all have their own upgradable talents that need way too much xp, so it's probably best to stick to one, except you might find better ones later. there are equippable trinkets that are very rare. at first I thought you got them from special crates on some levels that only break... somehow, but the contents are only for a score bonus. there are also events on the map, may or may not end with a reward or punishment based on choices and possibly rng. said events aren't highlighted, gotta mouseover the whole screen to find them. the story is presented in a subpar fashion as well, full of grammatical errors (missing apostrophes, your/you're mixup, etc.). mandatory typewriter effect, have to click the skip button specifically to make sentences appear instantly. no voiceovers or constant gibberish, but random brief noises for each line, like zombies growling or the main guy scratching his throat every. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. time. decent settings otherwise: separate volumes (music and sfx only, nothing for speech noises), rebindable controls(!), resolutions, windowed mode, gfx quality, toggles for screen shake, match finder and hero notifications (whatever they are). there are loading screen tips but loading times are non-existant and they can't be viewed elsewhere, rendering them useless. some of it is done well and shakes the pretty stale genre up a bit, but mostly not in a good way. with goals not clearly disclosed, no difficulty settings, annoying mechanics and other stuff, it could hardly be further from recommendable. wouldn't be hard to turn it into something enjoyable, but there were only 2 small patches 2 months after release and with going free the dev threw in the towel for good.
The game doesn't really require strategy - it's more luck if you are going to get the right combination of bombs. However, it quite fun until level 23. This is a ridiculous 'beat the clock' level where the only chance you have is to hurridely click around almost at random and hope you can get rid of the 'shriekers' before you are overrun. I gave up at this point and deleted the game.
