About
This is not a routine patch, this is a structural refinement of your experience based on player feedback.
Movement is faster. Combat recovery is shorter. Parries now matter. Dodges create space. Enemies react longer. Multiplayer is fairer. The opening experience is clearer. The entire game runs better.
This is the game we always wanted you to play.
Welcome to Hotel Barcelona: Under New Management.
A mysterious hotel stands in a remote location on the border between Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Its luxurious appearance hides a terrifying truth: it’s a trap for America’s most dangerous serial killers.
You are Justine, a novice federal marshal with a deadly secret - your mind is shared with Dr. Carnival, a deranged murderer with a violent past. Together, you must eliminate every killer in the hotel… and try to survive long enough to escape.
This is not a simple side-scrolling action game. The intense battles require tactical movement, precise timing, and clever use of your abilities. Environments are rich with danger and drenched in 1980s American horror movie atmosphere.
Every time you die, a memory of your past self is born. These echoes, known as Slasher Phantoms, repeat your exact movements from the previous run, and can deal real damage to enemies.
Use them as shields, allies, or distractions. With each failure, your strength multiplies.
The more you fight, the more you’re covered in blood. This isn’t just visual flare. Blood fuels your power.
Fill the Skull Gauge by staying aggressive, and when it reaches its peak, unleash Carnival Awakening: a devastating special attack that unleashes something unstoppable but monstrous.
Explore seven unique areas within HOTEL BARCELONA, each inspired by a different sub-genre of horror.
From haunted mansions to twisted laboratories, each zone contains an unforgettable boss battle that demands analysis, strategy, and quick reflexes.

SUDA51 (No More Heroes, Killer7) and SWERY (Deadly Premonition, The Good Life) team up for the first time in this original horror-action project.
Their distinct styles combine into a surreal, gore-filled, unforgettable experience.
At first glance, HOTEL BARCELONA may look like a single-player roguelike. However, the game also features robust online multiplayer if you know how to unlock it. Up to three players can join forces in co-op mode, working together to complete missions and survive the hotel's murderous inhabitants. And for those seeking a more competitive thrill, PvP mode allows a fourth player to invade your world, hunting or being hunted in a brutal cat-and-mouse game.

All the changes they did are good. Great! Now people are able to see the content of the game. One small problem... the content is not good. Particularly the story; you have this cool setting with this mystery going on, hinting at mature and complicated themes being touched but they're never expanded nor talked about besides the first time you hear about it and the ending's message is also something new with nothing to do with anything else and while I'm not against the message, it did feel like I traveled back in time 20 years ago to see what a cishetero man had to say about LGBTQ+ and POC identities and I just don't know how you ♥♥♥♥ up a progressive message so bad it feels outdated that being said, the coop is laggy and full of desyncs, the game has frame drops that go from a loss of 45 frames to 30 frames less at best and it's even worse on the steam deck. the swirly green and red thing from all of the promotional material? yeah it's not there, and almost everything in this game is not introduced properly, it feels like you're watching a sequel of something that doesn't have a prequel. This game's direction is so all over the place that I don't want to even bother drafting and crafting a good review because quite frankly the game doesn't deserve it. I'm sorry but "the curse of mixed" y'all begged to escape from surprised me on how it wasnt a "mostly negative".
Oh god! Enjoyed my stay! Checked into this Botel and she barcelona'd on my rougelike. price was right...the neighbors were weird, but the pillows were clean! Uhhhh, it looks like those ps3 games I used to play when I was younger? like Trine. Goretastic bosses. The Deadly Premonition guy made this. the drinKING himself. Did ya know??? 65 out of 66. My Dad told me if I kept playin' vidya games like this I would go blind and become very very violent. He was right. I am now in a federal prison for many warcrimes. Suda51 wishes he had the b***s to make this! https://youtu.be/18q29Usluh8?si=lYvwVBAA8pin-A1P
good as hell art and competent gameplay if you're into roguelikes, its worth it Swery you use AI again and we're going to your house with pitchforks and torches
A fun & darkly charming side scrolling platformer, roguelite, hack n slash that's full of great ideas. Like working alongside the ghosts of your previous runs for an extra edge, or a casino run by a fellow fan of the good Doctor Frankenfurter.
Where do I begin? Roguelike gameplay- check Metroidvania style movement- check Soulslike boss fights- check Amazing art style- check Easter eggs and homages to the horror icons- extra big check. Trust me, this is by far the most unique and intriguing Roguelike ive ever played, and I have played heaps of them. Once you check in to HOTEL BARCELONA, you won't check out.
Some of the best art direction I have ever seen in a game! Very fun side scroller!
My two wonderful dads made this game.
Hotel Barcelona has charismeeeerh (charisma buy Matt Berry's voice) in heaps and an exciting story and characters. It has some great ideas which need a bit more polish. I love how Suda51 and Swery's styles merge here into a shorter game. It's a good game that could be excellent if it had: - more exciting Character upgrades; - better thought-out Weapon Progression, because right now you can play through the entire game with the starter weapon with less and less incentive to respec or try/buy new weapons; - a little bit more story. Just one more DLC; - fixed its sound issues; - less useless ranged weapons. It's a love letter to horror movies and you're quite likely to recognize almost every single one. There are some deep cuts though.
+ Story and art is spot on. + Plenty of interesting ideas. + Satisfying gameplay loop. + Lots of challenges to work towards. + You can invade your favorite streamer and sabotage their runs.
Absolut banger. Not as thought provokingly cool as Deadly Premonition or D4 but right up there with the best of 'em. Swery's still got it.
