Holopoint: Chronicle is a good sequel on the first game, with levels to unlock with each their unique modes and seperated leaderboards, now you can show your aim & dodging skills outside the dojo! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNneXl7hclg
Worse than original Holopoint. It's hard to enjoy a fast-paced archery game at sub 90 FPS. Pros: -More enemies. -More areas. Cons: -Terrible performance. It couldn't run at 90 FPS with Vive Pro + i7-6700K + RTX 2080 (100% supersampling). After adjusting the supersampling to around 70% and the quality to medium, it could barely run at 90 FPS (with Motion Smoothing off). -Terrible UI. It's hard to understand the icons. -It's hard to see enemies in some bright areas. -The "spotlights" are too conspicuous and a bit unsightly.
Changing my review to negative. This is clearly abandonware and will be getting no performance or bug patches.
Compared to the original Holopoint +It's much prettier +More areas +No drawing arrows from quiver +Active and responsive dev [strike]-Missing options available in Holopoint, such as 1-handed aiming. In fact, there doesn't seem to be an options menu at all.[/strike] (1-handed aiming added in beta) -Doesn't run as well on i7-4770k@4.4GHz & 2080Ti -I dislike the music
I was thinking about buying the original Holopoint, but saw this game was coming out so I waited on it. After buying and playing this game, I quickly realised many things: 1. This feels like an Early Access game. The game is very unintuitive. It took me a few minutes once I was in to figure out how the menus work. There's no tutorial or anything. 2. The game runs very poorly. It lags on my overclocked 1070, and some maps are so terribly optimized that they are unplayable. 3. The game never teaches you about new "enemies" (aka different 3D shapes) you encounter. They all do different things and it takes a lot of trial and error to learn what they do. On top of this, the music sounds like it's from 2012. Very disappointed with this game. It really feels like a cash grab sequel. I wouldn't recommend that you buy this unless it gets some much-needed updates.
Disable Motion Smoothing ! Game runs great on my GTX 1080 I7-7700k after I disabled this setting. Visually game looks better and physics are better. Def worth every penny if you want to harness your inner Legolas.
Valve Index and HTC Vive, the game crashes upon trying to load a level as others mentioned. Its not working as advertised/not working at all. Should be fixed or removed from Index and Vive compatibility.
As a person who loves the original Holopoint, it pains me to say that you should not buy this game in its current state. From what I can tell, the game has been abandoned completely by the devs. They were super active for the first few weeks, and then out of nowhere everything just stopped. No idea if something happened, but right now the game has a lot of large issues that make it not worth your time. The main issues are: - Performance issues up the wazoo, the last area is a stutterey mess, and I have a 1080TI and play most other games at 1.5-2 supersampling. Even at low graphics and lower supersampling, the performance is quite bad for a game that's so simple. - Weird hitboxes. Some of the levels have spots where your arrows will ricochet off nothing. - Weird UI, it's quite confusing until you know what's going on. - Poor index support. If the devs update the game and fix some of these issues, I'll happily change the review, but as is it seems like the game is abandoned.
This was a snap-buy for me because of how much I enjoyed the original. I'm happy to support the developers of one of my top VR games, but I'm still surprised that this wasn't a DLC to the original game. I can't recommend the original over this one because of the extra mechanics added to the new targets. Beyond that, it's the same game with different environments to divide up the various new targets. I can't ask for more than that from a DLC, but again this is not a DLC so I feel like there should've been something more to it to justify that. In my eyes, the developers have split one game in half. The new game leaves out great components that the original had, like a time attack mode and different kinds of targets and adds in content that couldve just been an update in the original. If this were my game i would try to make it as good as i can, and the new game is worth the pricetag of the original, but I hope to see the devs reintroduce the maps and game-modes that made the classic what it is.
This is a well made game that doesn't make me feel sick. Every VR game I had played previously made my eyes hurt. This game has smooth graphics that feel natural. It is easy to tell that alot of time and effort went into the design for this game. Small details such as ground texture, 3D menues, and even fish make for a truely beautiful game. Any issues that I have had are limitations of the device rather than the game. The game feels balanced and has a good learning curve. This is not to say that it does not get difficult. There are parts where you will fail multiple times. I enjoy learning how to deal with each type of enemy. I highly recommend playing this game yourself before watching a playthrough.
