HOGuru Presents: The House With Too Many Zombies In It is a very basic 2D top down retro wave survival shooter where you shoot waves of uninspired, badly drawn "zombies". The gameplay is shallow and thoroughly uninspired. The quality is so bad that I'm genuinely unsure if this is meant to be a "joke" game or not. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the game resolution caps out at 1080p, a very low resolution that became mainstream back in 2006 and became obsolete when 4K entered the mainstream in 2014. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is often used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer, who does not understand the existence of 4K monitors or advanced PC hardware, has decided to breach Valve guidelines to argue with a paying customer that the waves of zombies I had to shoot in this pixelcrap disaster were not waves of zombies. I'm just here to inform gamers buying decisions, but who's advice are you going to take here? The guy who couldn't afford a 3D accelerator? So I looked around and this developer has thrown out a bunch of 10/10 fake reviews for a bunch of trash games, including several Russian asset flip scams. Interesting. I also looked at other reviews of this particular trashheap of a game, and wow, there's a couple of almost completely identical reviews from accounts that look like they're almost certainly fake positive reviews for a game that we already know has no serious merit or value as a game for PC gamers on Steam. So those are the facts, which point very squarely to this guy breaching Valve rules and performing review manipulation. Gamers, do what you will with the facts here, I'm just here to inform. I probably wouldn't have caught that if I didn't get a developer review guideline breach warning from his actions. Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this game to anyone.
The story is wild yo
Fun short game. Grab weapons, shoot at everything that moves. Very well done dialogs with cool characters and an interesting story.
Challenging and Fun.
