~45 minute commentary on working at the factory and helping your mother at home, getting a paycheck that seemingly vanished shortly after you got it. As someone that worked at Amazon I found the game very relatable in terms of how these jobs destroy you from the inside, all you had to do is look in the eyes of people that worked there for too long, there was no soul left in them. Some jobs not only destroy your body and leave you with injuries, but also ruin your mental health, if not completely make you lose faith in humanity because of how they treat you, and that is kind of the vibes that I got from Hlina. I saw some people in the forum saying this game is trash due to technical issues, and on my end I didn't have that many problems, mainly I just want to see V-sync added because Unreal engine can force some GPUs to work at 100%, but it depends on what GPU you have, so it may or may not affect you. Otherwise I didn't notice anything game breaking, although there may have been some missing lines of dialogue with the bar keeper (when they have a conversation about the events at the factory), looked like it would skip some lines. The narrative wasn't bad, although there wasn't that much to it, I felt the game needed to be a bit longer, maybe if you had more optional locations to visit, or if you explored that relationship with the girl more. The game advertises mini-games as part of the experience, but honestly they didn't add much relevant gameplay or exploration, like visually it's fine, but I wish there were more ways to spend your money, maybe something like a grocery store, and that way you could add some achievements, perhaps add some millage to a short game. I assume Hlina means clay, the Russian word for it is very similar which is glina, AKA adult version of plasticine. Always nice to see devs actually manually create the environment, there is just something endearing when graphics are made by hands, I assume it's not stop motion, but I still prefer it to 3D modeling. Overall the game looked interesting, even though it didn't have as many locations as I expected, also it had a nice gloomy atmosphere.
Pros:
(+) I assume the entire game is made with clay and maybe some crafted objects? Had a neat look to it and nice depressing vibes, but not that many locations. (+) The story works for what it is, it's relatable if you ever worked in the factory or any other soul draining job for that matter, but again, there wasn't much else to it.
Feedback:
- might want to add a ZOOM function, just so people can take a better look at your work, the camera is often very far away - you want to add optional V-sync for games that are made in Unreal engine, some types of GPUs will run at 100% the entire time unless you tell it otherwise (makes the GPU loud), even if the game does not demand it, ideally it should work during the game, and when you alt-tab too, and during cutscenes. - it looked to me like there were some missing lines of dialogue when you talked to the bar guy about the horrors at the factory - I felt like game needed more optional content, maybe if you at least made a few optional buildings to buy food or something else. Also I wish you expanded on that connection with the girl, the game felt a bit too abrupt for me. Overall Thoughts: 6/10 I don't want to say it was a bad experience, but $6 for 45 minutes is not amazing, maybe if you added just a few extra optional locations, perhaps some achievements for optional tasks, it would make it a bit more wholesome. Somewhat relatable commentary if you worked a tedious job before, had some neat claymation locations, so overall just okay game, there are better examples of clay games on Steam.
Gameplay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgXUGRMC1_U Honestly, the game caught my attention because how many games like this are there, right? But the problem with this game is that nothing really special happens. The story is very simple, which doesn't really matter, but where did I get to after an hour of playing? Roughly on day 5, and I don't know how the game was tested, but as you can see in the video, it was glitchy enough that I had to go to the menu and reload the game repeatedly. As you can see, I don't even know how much energy I have because there's a white line there. And what good is that to me? I go into the house and on the right there's goulash in the middle of an egg. I don't know what it means, and when I move, I fall into the textures, as you can see in the video. Even so, I manage. I find the dialogues really dry, and sometimes they don't make complete sense. The pub, where there could be a bit of life, is actually dead. And the same animations of certain characters even after several days. The character doesn't have to run, but he can walk faster. As for the mini-game in the factory, it's a good idea for those who have never been on an assembly line in a factory. It's a bit of an exaggeration, but in real factories, you have to meet quotas and people walk all over you; human rights don't exist there. Well, only on paper. But to go through that every day. And then be forced to spend money on beer in the pub. I really didn't enjoy that. The slot machine could have been used a little better. There could have been cards or darts. What bothers me more is that the game is really slow. Depressing theme, interesting music in the menu, fine. I don't know how long it is. But I forced myself to play it and was a little curious about what would happen next, but the slowness and emptiness drained me and I gave up. I can't recommend it at the moment. If the author works on it some more and improves the game mechanics a little and adds something to the story, then sure. However, I get a lot of emails about games to try out, even if they are more expensive, but I don't force myself to do it. And here I played it to support the author. A review shouldn't just be negative, but a reflection. It would also be good to write about what the plans are for the future, or whether that's all there is and that's it. You won't learn anything from the demo that's available there, because it's the shortest I've ever played, maybe 8 minutes long or less. Czech version translate Upřímně řečeno, hra mě zaujala, protože kolik takových her vlastně existuje, že?
A very brief, yet very heavy Czech Little-Nightmares, just with work-life connotations. I am always fascinated by this visual style that is marvelous to me. The soundtrack is also cool. Nevertheless, I have been a bit disappointed by the story and the world that could have been explored a bit more, even though I understand the most important messages and ideas have been delivered. Also, controlling objects and putting them into right places also was sometimes painful since these did not react as I wanted (however, this was not the main point of the game so I accept that; maybe even the contrary, I can even imagine that it was part of the plan). To sum up, the game was an interesting experience, although I can understand why some the gamers are disappointed, especially by very short game time. I will be very happy if the developers continue in exploring the idea of this murky world and add more stories and depth to it in the future. I think this is the way to start.
I really liked this game. Story as simple as apple, but it`s horror "part" is perfect. Style is amazing, never saw game in this style. It reminded me Machinarium, I don`t know why. I saw only two minor problems - First is small light bug in factory near bloody door that shows that toilet room is just pitch black, second bug - hand is a bit too big when you work and at the pub you have to click more right from the hand on the screen. In overall game is kinda good, it costs time that i spent in it. 9/10
