Honestly, I don't think the concept itself is necessarily bad, but in this type of puzzle game, an undo button is NOT optional. Having to replay the entire puzzle because you made one error close to the end is not fun and makes the game way more frustrating than it needs to be. Especially with the bonus stages and how cluttered & messy they are to solve. Really the puzzle design in general doesn't feel very tight, accidentally stumbling upon a solution felt like the norm in these puzzles and it was rarely satisfying to clear a level. The presentation is fine enough (I muted the music pretty quickly though) but I really did not find this fun to play and couldn't even bring myself to finish the bonus levels by the end, just no fun at all.
Man mag dies vielleicht anders sehen, bitte, gerne.

overall good. can recommend it. the price of this game is in offer -75% very good.
INSTALLING NOTHING
The concept, tile variety, presentation, and content for the price are all fine. However, as the levels increase in size and complexity, it becomes simultaneously more important and more difficult to keep track of what's going to happen many moves into the future. Level design does not feel elegant or logical, but random for the sake of difficulty. My approach to puzzles that could not be solved one section at a time eventually degenerated into guessing and hoping that the puzzle would be solvable by the time there were few enough tiles for the puzzle to be predictable. I might still recommend it except for the fact that, on top of the messy design, there is no undo button. If you make a mistake, you will have to replay the entire puzzle. There are also three presentation problems that hinder puzzle solving: 1.) The rising tile, an obstacle that gains height each turn up to some maximum before descending and starting the process over again, does not tell you how many times it rises, which can vary from one level to the next. You must determine this by playing the level a bit first. 2.) That same tile also does not tell you whether it is currently ascending or descending until you make your move. Combined with the above problem, the rising tile is perhaps the most frustrating aspect of the game and was responsible for many of my late-game failures. 3.) It can be difficult to tell the purple tiles from the pink ones when they are inactive. Hex isn't a bad game. I just can't recommend a puzzle game that stopped being fun because solving the puzzles felt like cleaning up a mess. For those who care about game length and achievements: It took me 10-12 hours to solve all of the levels (obtaining all achievements), half of which was devoted to the bonus levels, for which there is no complete Steam or YouTube guide.
Great puzzle game. Starts off pretty simple but gets challenging precisely when it should. There are some bonus levels that will take you VERY long to defeat, which is exactly what you would want from a puzzle game. The concept is clear, and every level is different. The way it incorporates different kinds of tiles is prorbaly the best part of the game! Definitely worrth the cost, I would pay more for the game. Definitely reccomend this one!!!
Building a minimalist puzzle game must be equal parts satisfying and immensely frustrating. I think it takes a very keen sense of logical mechanic design and an understanding of what is visually and aurally appealing. The developer of Hex seems to grasp these concepts well, but does miss the mark in a few areas that affected me personally and perhaps some others with the same limitations.
Amped-Up Solo Chinese Checkers
Hex is a puzzle game that has you moving a dot between hexes directly away from each face of the shape to another (much like a hex-based board game) with the effort to clear the board of the required hexes. There are a variety of hexes with different properties, for instance, the black hexes only need landed upon once to remove them, but grey ones twice. It doesn’t take long for the types and colors of the hexes to grow and this presents a diverse set of rules that must be followed to complete each level successfully. Moving your little eraser dot is reminiscent of Chinese Checkers in that you can either move one space to a hex or two spaces – potentially jumping over another hex. This is of course much more complicated as you reach hexes that can’t be jumped over, or hexes that can only be accessed by a double jump or single jump. However, the entire process of playing this game is simple to pick up and certainly accessible for a lot of people, including those with limited motor skills.
Seeing is deceiving
There is one particular issue that I found in Hex that made it particularly difficult for me - as the hexes grow in color, my color blindness starts to be a significant issue in solving puzzles. The biggest issue I came across so far is that using pink and purple – with each shade changing subtly as you approach them and they are highlighted for moves – created an effect that made the colors very similar in my eyes. I’m not sure if there’s a simple resolution in color changing as I don’t know what other colors may be used in the many levels of the game, but perhaps some sort of icon or symbol would be a possibility for use in a “colorblind mode” that would make the game more reasonable for people that have difficulty discerning colors.
Puzzles for Puzzle People
My history with puzzle games hasn’t been a particularly strong one. I’ve really enjoyed only a handful and played them through to completion – and of those, most are more mainstream titles like Portal. However, I do see the merit in puzzle games, especially for those people that want something that keeps their brain working while not requiring a significant time investment or featuring a steep learning curve. I found the minimalist design, soothing music and sounds, and general low energy of the game to be very relaxing and it actually almost put me to sleep while playing during the evening. That’s not something I’d normally express as a positive, but when a game seems to strive toward a tranquil experience, I would definitely say the developer has succeeded. Hex is a game that I recommend primarily to fans of puzzle games, but it may find some more appeal to a slightly broader audience with discounts in the various Steam sales of the future.
