Short review: It's fun, it's cute, exploration is always enjoyable, combat is a bit scruffy, girls are cute. Recommended, probably on easy difficulty. More in depth: I feel like this would be the perfect title to play on a handheld. The art and music are charming, and do a good job of embracing that retro sensibility. It's often a very cozy experience. As I said above, I was always having a good time poking around the world, uncovering secrets and new abilities. The romance tracks were sweet and well-written, and well integrated into the main story. Interactions with the different love interests always seemed to pop up at just the right time to prevent fatigue with the mechanical side of the game. All in all, really enjoyable. What was less enjoyable, for me, was the combat. For the record, I played on normal difficulty. For regular enemies it works well enough. It adds an element of pressure to the exploration, but nothing too unforgiving. The bosses were a mixed bag, and sometimes quite frustrating. It's for that reason that I personally wouldn't recommend playing on normal difficulty. The combat and controls simply aren't refined enough for the level of precision of input that the bosses are asking for. It's not all bad in that respect. I actually really enjoyed the twin knights, the secret boss beneath the temple, and the final boss' first phase. Those fights made for a satisfying give and take of attack and retreat, I liked them a lot. But on the whole, yeah, I'd say easy mode is where it's at, at least for me personally. I did really enjoy my time with this game. If you like a mix of exploration, romance, and retro art and level design, I would definitely recommend it. Final thoughts: Amarylis a cute. That is all.
