One thing i find interesting in this game is the lore. Although I've yet to complete this game at the time of this review, I'm eager to find out more about Henry and his whole situation. The concept of a repeating day is really neat, and having a time limit always seems to up the challenge. I'll find myself getting into these conversations that Henry has as he meets new people, just to glance down at the time and say "crap! I've only got 30 seconds left in the day, and I got to find out whats gonna happen next." Its a very neat game, and I feel it is worth the time I've already put in it.
The story for this game is incredible and is most certainly the highlight of the game. This game does not hold your hand which can be good or bad depending on your preference. Personally I liked exploring the game world and finding the side quests and reading the little silly comments the characters would make. There are some minor delays in the graphics when the game world would load in certain buildings or objects. I know the developer released a patch recently that addressed some of that so I am assuming they will continue to update the game. Considering this was a solo developed game I’m thoroughly impressed as this is one of the better indie games I’ve gotten my hands on.
TLDR; Get it on sale, it's a fun sort of walking sim/ time loop game. To start, this is a fun time loop game, that is about 2 hours long. It's clearly a 1-2 people team that made the game, and it does have some wonky physics that reflect that. It is not bug ridden, but you can sequence break in this game, and they have accounted for that. I like the game, I think it's a great indy game, but I would say get it on a sale as the asking price is fairly high for what the experience is.
Henry's Day is a pretty interesting game where you need to fin a way to break the loop that Henry is. There is some quests to do that can help you to go to the place that you break the loop. There is collectibles that are notes that tell the story of Zander. Some animations need work but for a game made by 1 guys its good. For a game made by one person, the graphics of this game are incredible. The lore is well thought of, and having to repeat the same day brings a fun challenge to the game. The quests so far are entertaining, and i can't wait to see and play more of the game! Another thing i find interesting is having to go around the city to find hidden notes left by a guy who used to live there, it really brings the lore of the game to life. The NPC'S are funny and all have a background of some sort, which is always nice to have as it brings the player more into the game. Also, getting to keep your inventory is super helpful, since the day is constantly resetting, so you don't have to waste time just to get your items back. All and all, this game is well made and you can definitely the creator actually cared and put a lot of work into making it.
I initialy gave this a negative review, based on lack of keybinds and graphical features. Since then the devs released an update covering both within days, and to the degree that one would expect of current games, I'll change my review to positive. As such this review will continue with an optimistic impression of the devs' intents. I went in with the plan to test the controls on keyboard/mouse and controller and testing the graphics settings. Graphics settings nailed it! Game now plays flawlessly based on my settings, tailored to my pc. As for controls, either I messed up something bad or they're still a bit janky. Was able to certainly set keyboard/mouse just fine but the mouse would only work on the Y axis(I searched for an invert button as well but didn't find it; may have simply missed it). Pivoted to an unaltered controller setting. Joypad was inverted and replicated the same Y axis on camera pan. Update was so fast that I can see where something may have been missed, and this is simply a hotfix away. Good company that responded fast to issues without complaint. I'm willing to suffer a couple growing pains of a new game as a result.
I love this kind of games, where a narrative is mixed with puzzles and things that mess up with your brain. It's a game that pushes you because everytime the day restarts you try to challenge yourself to do things faster or thing more clearly. Very original game, I enjoyed it very much. I wish it was available in different languages, though, some people that watch me can't speak English so I had to translate but I was so into the game I forgot to do it sometimes.
