Hell Maiden picks up from the ending of the original Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.
Dante is now inexplicably back in Hell after having reached Paradiso — and she's lost all her memories to boot! Unable to remember anything about her past life or her first journey through Hell, Dante is determined to climb her way back to Heaven and once again come face to face with Paradiso's higher powers in search for answers.
A compelling story about passion, justice and love, Hell Maiden is more than a reimagining of the classic poem — it is the exciting continuation of its events!

Starting with what this game does well: The art style, voice acting, and aesthetic inspiration is top notch. Visually, this game is a treat. The storyline, humor, and writing are really excellent, and I have high hopes for that foundation. Unfortunately, it falls apart a bit as an actual game. As of writing this review, only the first two circles are available, so that's where I'll begin my critique. For a game that will theoretically have 9 Circles, I cannot imagine what the difficulty spike will look like past the 3rd, because the 2nd circle essentially requires full meta-progression on Move Speed and Dash to deal with the new enemies on that stage, suggesting that the team does not grasp proper power scaling on a level that leaves me worried about the game's long-term prospects. Combat visuals get severely cluttered in the second stage, making readability dicey depending on the weapons you've selected. Additionally, the weapons are poorly balanced, with some being categorically easier to use and others being almost a handicap. Likewise damage numbers and hitboxes for enemy ranged attacks specifically feel unstable. Those things can be fixed with number tweaks, though, so they don't concern me quite as much as the metaprogression issue. It's not difficult to fill out your early progression, but that in and of itself is a problem. It feels almost like the team created the power ceiling for the metaprogression with the idea that the second or third circle would be the ceiling of difficulty for the game as a whole. For now, this game is gorgeous and lovely, but mechanically, it's not very well made, so I cannot recommend it even in its current form as an Early Access. I hope the mechanical systems see some tweaking.

I found this game during GamesCom. I was hooked immediately and continued to play at home for 3 hours instead of unpacking my suitcases. Worth it 100%! Super lovely artstyle and pixelart, the music is on point and the story intruiging. Can´t wait to play more after work :D
Survivors-clone based on Dante's Inferno with lesbians, 90's anime aesthetic, and DS-esque graphics? Are they trying to check all my boxes?
Very enjoyable game. Like the fusion of anime and literature.
This game has the SAUCE, without a doubt my favorite roguelike experience ive ever played. -Visuals are an incredibly nostalgic late 90's early 2000's anime vibe that hits just right -Weapons are all varied and unique with the boost card system being admittedly a little under-cooked right now (really needs more things that modify attack behaviors over just raw stat increases or chance on hit effects "Projectiles now orbit you" or things of that nature would make for some interesting combos go wild with it) - Soundtrack hasnt had a single miss so far loved everything, definitely wasnt expecting a Mili song off rip but it was a pleasant surprise -The game is just the right amount of difficulty vs fun, the second level at least was no pushover but that made it an excellent goal to overcome which is necessary in games of this genre IMO to really push the player forward without making it too easy to just blast through everything the game has to offer in a day or two
A self insert comedy from 14th century goes full yuri mode, this is truly our paradiso
If I had a nickel for every game, where the protagonist forgot something important and the inspiration was the Divine Comedy, I'd have three nickels. Needless to say that all three are good so far, including this one
This game has so much character it's crazy!!!
