one of the worst experiences i had
cons: one of the most “far-fetched” stories. It feels like science fiction, even though it's scary... but $13 over price guys. mayb 7 or 8 yeah Pros: You can influence the outcome of events, rather than just watching like a traditional movie
Nice forest witch horror story. But I can't skip already seen scenes or save manually, which is a no go for me.
idk. 7.5\10
I think this game deserves a better rating. I thoroughly enjoyed my first playthrough. The camera work, the lighting, sound effects and score are all great. The acting and special effects aren't bad either, and it's a great setting with several interesting locations near the German Black Forest. I've seen plenty of non-interactive horror movies with a higher budget that weren't remotely as good. There's plenty of non-obvious choices to make, and at least some of them have long-lasting repercussions. The plot is a bit thin and sometimes hard to follow, but for a game that is meant to be replayable, that's actually a good thing. Since you're able to skip scenes after making it to the end the first time, I'm quite sure I'll give it another go at least once.
As a massive FMV fan, Wales Interactive rarely disappoints, and Heart of the Forest is another solid addition to the genre. I love seeing more horror make its way into FMV games. The atmosphere is incredible—it feels like a cool mix of Blair Witch and German Black Forest folklore. Some scenes genuinely nail the tension and thrills. The Good: - Awesome Blair Witch meets German Black Forest folklore vibe. - Great tension and genuine thrills in the first half. Some scenes are spooky for sure! - Solid 3 hour runtime with good replayability for multiple endings. The Bad: - Classic FMV hit-or-miss acting. - Lacking execution on some jump scares due to weird editing/filming choices. - The last third of the script gets incredibly weird and doesn't make much sense. Still, it's a solid 2-3 hours for a first run, and there's good replay value if you want to hunt down all the endings. If you like interactive horror movies, it's definitely worth checking out!
100% would recommend! I bought this full price and do not regret my purchase. I throughly enjoyed playing through this game/movie. The cinematography, practical effects and atmosphere were really impressive! Honestly give whoever filmed and directed this a better script and more experienced actors and the end product would be on parr with indie horror movies coming out today. The real only setback for this was the script and acting, Anna and Simon in particular were among the weaker performances. There were not a large amount of interactive points but enough to keep you engaged. It is an interactive "Movie" not just a game and as far as I am concerned I think the movie aspect was really good. I went back and chose all the branching options just to see the different cut scenes. I think the viewers experience and their teams effort alone is worth the full price of the game and I would buy it again!
剧情太降智了,如果这是一部电影,应该不会有人愿意花钱看。整个游戏全程都是你找我、我找他、她找他。。。。
Heart of the Forest is a narrative-driven psychological horror game that embraces the strengths of full-motion video storytelling while immersing players in the eerie mythology of Germany's Black Forest. Developed by Trapped Predator and published by Wales Interactive, the game delivers a cinematic experience where every choice has lasting consequences. Instead of focusing on combat or complex mechanics, it places its emphasis on tense decision-making, emotional storytelling, and the gradual unraveling of a supernatural mystery. The result is an interactive horror adventure that feels closer to starring in a suspenseful film than playing a conventional survival horror title, making it particularly appealing to fans of branching narratives and character-focused experiences. The story begins with a hiking trip that quickly spirals into a desperate fight for survival after a group of students encounters an ancient force hidden within the forest. As fear spreads among the group, long-buried secrets and personal conflicts emerge, blurring the line between psychological trauma and supernatural influence. Drawing inspiration from regional folklore, the narrative gives the setting a distinctive identity that separates it from more familiar haunted house or zombie-themed horror games. The forest itself becomes an oppressive presence, with every shadow and unfamiliar path reinforcing the feeling that the characters are being watched and manipulated by something far older than they can understand. One of the game's greatest strengths is its commitment to player choice. Every important decision can alter relationships, determine who survives, and reshape the direction of the narrative. Rather than presenting simple right-or-wrong answers, the game frequently challenges players with morally uncertain situations where every option carries potential consequences. This design encourages multiple playthroughs, as different choices reveal alternate scenes, character developments, and endings. The inclusion of multiple playable perspectives also enriches the storytelling by allowing players to witness events through different emotional lenses, creating a broader understanding of both the characters and the supernatural threat pursuing them. The production values help elevate the experience considerably. The live-action performances feel convincing, while the cinematography makes excellent use of the dense woodland setting to create a constant sense of isolation and dread. Carefully composed lighting, effective camera work, and atmospheric sound design steadily build suspense without relying entirely on sudden scares. The haunting musical score complements the unsettling visuals, enhancing moments of tension while allowing quieter scenes to develop the emotional weight of the characters. Together, these elements create an immersive atmosphere that captures the unsettling beauty and mystery associated with the Black Forest and its legends. Because Heart of the Forest is built around interactive storytelling, players expecting traditional gameplay mechanics such as combat, extensive exploration, or intricate puzzles may find the experience more limited. Its pacing is largely driven by dialogue, cinematic sequences, and decision-making, meaning the overall enjoyment depends on how invested players become in the narrative and its cast. Fortunately, the branching structure, multiple endings, and meaningful consequences provide solid replay value, rewarding those who want to uncover every possible outcome and explore the different paths available throughout the story. Heart of the Forest succeeds by combining psychological horror, authentic folklore, and cinematic storytelling into an engaging interactive experience. Its memorable setting, believable performances, and meaningful player choices create a tense narrative that remains compelling from beginning to end. While it may not satisfy players looking for action-heavy gameplay, it excels as a choice-driven horror adventure that prioritizes atmosphere, suspense, and emotional storytelling. Fans of interactive films and narrative horror games will likely appreciate its unique blend of supernatural mystery and character drama, making it a worthwhile addition to the growing catalog of modern FMV experiences. 叙事节奏太慢了,故事设计也有点崩坏,但是整体上还是达到了基本的水平。
