Heart of Smoke

Heart of Smoke is pretty interesting. It gives off this somewhat familiar nostalgic feeling for the games a lot of us used to play when we were younger. The game is simple at heart (pun intended). You start off with your basic wizard lad called Eneen that also smokes so much he can conjure up deadly attacks and a bird out of it all. On your quest to get some food back to your wife you get stopped by Rae, a rookie ninja that is on a quest for power. You two team up and set out to save the world. Sounds simple, right? Well, the little twist here is that you can play both characters and you will be required to make use of them both in order to successfully beat the Mario like stages. I thought the game's going to be a piece of cake to beat but actually, I had some difficulty passing through some of the stages. But then again, there's collectibles here, and being a perfectionist, I need to collect everything I can. There's also hidden bonus stages that you can access if you find them and they yield some collectibles as well. The controls are simple to learn but they might be a bit confusing at first until you get the hang of it. It took me a few tries and deaths to finally understand how to better make use of my abilities and how to combine them for the best results. According to the developers, for experienced players on this genre, this shouldn't take that long to beat the game so for a price as low as this, I guess it's worth a playthrough. It's been a while since I've last played a short and casual game and this one was a nice break from all the hardcore and complex games out there.

Edit: Developer fixed the issue i had and now i can actually get through the game. Its not to bad of a game.... The controls are a little different from what i am used in platformers. But despite that its a decent game.

At first, the game seems easy. You see all this pleasing art and the happy and joy everywhere scenario but after you pass a couple of levels you realize that it's actually not that easy. Let's start with the vibe the game gives off the first time you tread through it's doors. The main story starts by introducing you to the two main characters who you will control called Eneen, who is a wizard, and Rae, who's a badass ninja. You can play with both characters at the same time and in some levels, you will really need to use them both to successfully pass through each and every obstacle. While it may seem like a simple story at first and not much plot to go on due to the nature of the game there's this feeling you get as you progress. The feeling that you want to see how it ends, even though it may be something simple. Heart of Smoke is a good platformer game when it comes to the difficulty part. The first few levels are somewhat easy, and do a good job at introducing you to the controls and the abilities your heroes have so you use them more efficiently. However, as you pass slowly through levels, they start getting harder and you may end up ramming the fist into your desk at some point. There's a small silver lining to this however as the satisfaction will be immensely higher when you finally pass the stage. A good feature that keeps the game interesting and in a way, also makes you restart most levels, is the fact that you have collectibles and bonus stages. Throughout the game, you will find pages. Lots and LOTS of pages. These can be collected and once you get 100 pages, you get a new life. You should try to hang on to those lives as much as possible as they're a crucial part to your survival to the end. Aside from the pages that you can collect, there's also special signs that are spawned and hidden inside the levels or the mini games that you will encounter throughout your playthrough. There's also bonus stages that can be found in most levels and they're somewhat easy to pass, but you only get one chance! If you want to have more chances you'll have to restart the level so an extra careful set of mind and eyes is well needed. I haven't yet finished the game myself since I'm the kind of player that tries to get their hands on all the collectibles before being done with even the first playthrough. That might take me a couple more hours but I'm not gonna deny that it got me hooked. To summarize it, the game is fun and well worth the small price it has as you can get a lot of content to spend your time with. If you're looking for something to keep you occupied a whole day, I think this one takes a good slice of the cake.

This game is very cool, I really enjoyed it. I found it a little difficult to understand how some mechanics work but over time you will learn and enjoy, it is very interesting how you learn while playing.

A cute little platformer. The game has relaxing music and a nice art style, to be short it's just the perfect thing to play when you want to have a relaxing evening.

This game has a climate that is so familiar to me, I loved this 90s style that the game brings, I highly recommend it, for sure this game will make you miss some hours of the day. The art is so unique and the style of the characters are amazing. I loved that the magician uses a pipe and releases these smoke birds, I think it’s something for the creator to use more in the game, as if the magician was more of a support character and the ninja a battle character, I think of the wizard using the smoke to build bridges, levitate boxes or things like that, I think it would be amazing for the game. I really loved the game.

Heart of Smoke is a beautiful game with the style of platform games from the 90s, beautiful graphics and fun mechanics, combining all this making this game a great option for those who love this style. I liked several aspects of this game, several mechanics caught my attention, like the mechanics of air balloons and balloon supports, or the use of mounts available during the game I liked how the story was told in the game, and how it connects the phases. And I particularly loved the "smoke on the water" I think these easter eggs that the developers make are amazing!

This game is so fun!! The art has its own very striking style and I found it very pleasant, the game scenario reminded me of a feudal Japan environment and I loved it. The gameplay has so many mechanicals like the mage smoke Bird, the change between characters, the air balloon, the barrels and mounts in the best donkey kong style (when i saw it i felt a immense nostalgic feeling) and the other plataforms elements like jumping in the enemy head (to make a higher jump), hidden collectibles, extra levels (in fact, I found it amazing that every extra level had a different mechanic). The game has a great learning curve, at first you get a little lost in the controls, but as you play you get used to the controls and the mechanics About the potions minigame, it would be very interesting to increase the speed of the potions a little, I believe that would make it a little more fun. It’s a very fun game, it will definitely make you lose a few hours.
